WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama won’t be posing for any photos in the voting booth on Election Day – he’s casting his ballot early.

Pres. Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama said Monday they are both voting early, a nod to the campaign’s efforts to encourage supporters to vote absentee by mail or cast their ballot at an early voting location.

Mrs. Obama said on Twitter that she dropped her absentee ballot in the mail on Monday, telling her followers, “I couldn’t wait for Election Day!” The first lady then tweeted out a photo of her posing with the envelope holding her absentee ballot.

LOS ANGELES  — The creator of TV’s “Friday Night Lights” is accusing Mitt Romney of plagiarizing a phrase from the show to use as a campaign slogan.

Peter Berg wrote a letter to Romney on Friday saying he’s “not thrilled” that the Republican presidential candidate is using the phrase “Clear Eyes, Full Hearts, Can’t Lose” on campaign posters and his Facebook page.

On the TV show, a small-town Texas football coach uses the phrase to inspire his players before taking the field.

Berg’s agent distributed the letter to the media. In it, the writer-director-actor says Romney’s politics and campaign aren’t aligned with the themes of the TV series.

Berg goes on to thank the governor for supporting the show but says, “Please come up with your own campaign slogan.”

The Romney campaign did not respond to a request for comment.

Koch Industries, the billion-dollar global corporation that is known for converting some of the world’s resources into services that people depend on, sent a mailing to 45,000 of its employees earlier this month on how to vote in this year’s presidential election.

The company’s owners, siblings David and Charles Koch, who are infamously known for being GOP mega-donors, reportedly informed their Georgia Pacific employees that their livelihood could depend on the 2012 elections and that the company wholeheartedly supports Republican candidate Mitt Romney for president.

The packet also included a flyer that listed Koch-endorsed candidates with Romney at the favored No. 1 spot. Leaving no stone unturned, Charles Koch also wrote an op-ed that slammed President Barack Obama with his brother, David writing another that exulted Romney.

Students at  in Haiti are receiving the best education of their lives.

DePaul University ethics professor Laura Pincus Hartman helped build the school last year. She has been working in Haiti since even before the earthquake devastated the region and has used her experience as an educator to help the community there.

L’Ecole de Choix targeted 183 children ages 4-10 who had no education and no access to a healthy meal. One year later, those children who could not read or write are speaking and writing in French, Creole and English.

“The only way to help a country and a nation progress is to educate the young, ” Hartman said.

WEST PARK , FL – A little league football assistant coach could be facing assault charges after he was caught on video punching a referee during a game in West Park over the weekend, police said Monday.

The incident happened Saturday evening during a game.

According to the report, referee Andrew Keigans gave the Saints a penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct after one of the assistant coaches made a derogatory comment from the sidelines.

After he threw the flag, Keigans turned around and bumped one of the players and moved the player to the side to talk to one of the other referees, the report said.

The assistant coach, who disagreed with the penalty, barged the field and confronted Keigans as he was held back by head coach Antonio Lane, the report said.

Because the assistant coach left the sidelines and entered the field of play to confront Keigans, the head referee decided to end the game, the report said.

The Texas mom who beat her 2-year-old daughter and glued her hands to a wall was sentenced to 99 years in prison.

Judge Larry Mitchell gave the life sentence to a tearful Elizabeth Escalona, 23, because “you savagely beat your child to the edge of death.”

The sentence came down after five days of painful testimony in the case, as prosecutors showed pictures of the beaten toddler to Escalona and asked her if she was a “monster.”

“A monster did this,” prosecutor Eren Price told Escalona.

Escalona, who had pleaded guilty in July, nodded and replied, “Yes.”

The attack on the child came after Escalona became frustrated with potty training. Testimony from the girl’s siblings revealed that Escalona kicked the girl in the stomach and hit her with a milk jug before gluing her hands to the wall. The girl was hospitalized in a coma from the beating and some skin had been torn off her hands, doctors testified.

CHICAGO – Federal investigators are looking into possible inappropriate expenditures related to one of Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr.’s Congressional spending accounts.

There are reports, that  cite sources who say the probe focusing on “suspicious activity” was launched shortly before Jackson’s sudden leave of absence in June.

Arteisha Betts  and Travis Ammonette are suing a pair of obstetricians for allegedly decapitating their baby boy during his March 22, 2011, delivery then trying to hide the fatal error by shoving the child’s body and severed head back in to the Mom’s birth canal.

After conceiving their baby via in-vitro fertilization, the Florissant, Miss., couple anticipated the birth of their baby boy whom they had named Kaden Travis.  As Betts progressed in her pregnancy, doctors began to notice some abnormalities with regards to the baby’s abdomen, which was growing unusually large.

According to the complaint, which the couple filed in the courts last September, the defendants, Drs. Susan Moore and Gilbert W. Webb, both practice at the Midwest Maternity & Fetal Medicine Services, a clinic that specializes in high-risk pregnancies.

The couple contend that Dr. Moore had advised them during a routine appointment that the childbirth had to be done via C-section due to the child’s accelerated abdomen growth.

Benjamin Edetanlen was sentenced to 18 years in prison for killing his 5-month-old son in 2004 because of a paraphrased version of Proverbs 13:24: “He that spareth his rod hateth his son: but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes.”

Edetanlen physically abused the infant, as well as a 2-year-old daughter and a 1-year-old son.

“The defendant stated that he disciplined the children, according to the book of Proverbs in the Bible,” said Assistant District Attorney Dalia Racine in court.

The baby died from blunt force trauma. He also suffered from a broken leg and brain injuries.
