Corey Curtis, a father of nine children, was ordered by a judge on Monday to stop ”compulsively procreating” unless he can pay the $90,000 of child support he owes.

“It’s too bad the court doesn’t have the authority to sterilize,” said Racine County Circuit Court Judge Tim Boyle.

Boyle, as part of Curtis’ three-year probation, has prohibited the 44 year-old father from having any more children until he can prove he can financially provide for them.

Curtis’s nine children were fathered with six different women.

“Common sense dictates you shouldn’t have kids you can’t afford,” Boyle added.

In October, Curtis pleaded no contest to one count of felony bail jumping and one count misdemeanor of failure to pay child support.

The long child support bill comprises of $50,000 in back payments plus an additional $40,000 in interest.

WASHINGTON — In a reversal from four years ago, President Barack Obama will accept unlimited sums of money from corporations and individuals to pay for events surrounding his inauguration, a spokeswoman said Friday.

Lobbyists, political action committees and foreign entities, however, will still be banned from underwriting the costs of the gala events, spokeswoman Addie Whisenant said. The committee also will reject donations from companies that haven’t paid back loans from the 2008 federal bailout of Wall Street, as well as corporate sponsorship deals.

“Our goal is to make sure that we will meet the fundraising requirements for this civic event after the most expensive presidential campaign in history,” she said in a statement. “To ensure continued transparency, all names of donors will be posted to a regularly updated website.”

Pres. Obama’s second term automatically begins at noon on Jan. 20 under the 20th Amendment to the Constitution. Since that’s a Sunday, a private swearing-in will be held at the White House, followed the next day — the Martin Luther King Jr. federal holiday — by a public oath-taking and a series of scaled-back events.

Pres. Obama’s second inaugural will be smaller than his first, with no concert on the National Mall. It will, however, still have the traditional parade down Pennsylvania Avenue from the Capitol to the White House, as well as a National Day of Service and a round of official inaugural balls, although aides say not as many as last time.

The costs of the public swearing-in ceremony on the Capitol steps are covered by the congressional committee that oversees events on the Capitol Grounds. Security for the event is already part of the federal budget.

TEXAS – Wal-Mart security guard, Louis Campbell, shot and killed suspected shoplifter and mother of two, Shelly Frey, 27, in the parking lot of a Houston Wal-Mart in front of her two children as she attempted to leave the premises.

Campbell, an off-duty Harris County Sheriff’s deputy, was alerted by in-store security that Frey, Tisa Andrews and Yolanda Craig  had been observed hiding items in their purses. When the 26-year veteran confronted the trio, they ran for their car in the parking lot where two small children awaited their return.

The women entered the vehicle, but Campbell did not give up the chase. He opened the door and commanded that they exit, at which point the driver of the car accelerated and attempted to drive off.

“I think it knocked him off balance and, in fear of his life and being ran over, he discharged his weapon at that point,’ said Thomas Gilliland, Harris County Sheriff’s Office.

The women continued to drive despite Frey being injured and didn’t stop until they made it to a nearby apartment building. Paramedics from the Houston Fire Department were called and Frey was pronounced dead on the scene.

NEW YORK — The man who police say pushed another man to his death in front of an oncoming New York City subway train says he was high on drugs and trying combat voices in his head.

Authorities have charged 30-year-old Naeem Davis with second-degree murder in the Monday death of 58-year-old Ki-Suck Han.

Davis said in a jailhouse interview that Han had grabbed his arm and threatened him earlier. He says he was coaxed into shoving Han by voices in his head that he couldn’t control.

Davis said he didn’t attempt to pull Han to safety because “it happened so fast” and he was “under the influence” at the time.

He says he didn’t mean to kill Han.

TENNESSEE – A reporter for WZTV-TV, was shot while at an ATM around midnight. She was treated at a local hospital and later released.

Erika Lathon was using a banking machine 17th Ave. N. and Church Street around midnight when a man with a gun approached her car and demanded money.

Police said Lathon gave the robber the money, but he then shot her in the arm and ran away.

CHICAGO – Today is the day Bennie Starks has been waiting for.

After spending 20 years in prison for a beating and rape he didn’t commit, Starks will be free of all charges.

Starks was convicted in 1986 of assaulting a 68-year-old woman and served 20 years of a 60-year sentence when DNA evidence was retrieved that excluded him from the crime. An appeals court ordered a new trial in 2006, and Starks was released on bond.

“This has been a great day,” Starks said in May after Lake County prosecutors dropped sexual assault charges in the decades-old Waukegan rape.

The State’s Attorney had previously threatened to retry Starks on the charges but dismissed the sexual assault counts.

“The fight is not over with yet,” he said at the time. “We still have one more hurdle.”

California attorney Orly Taitz, the president of the Defend Our Freedoms Foundation, stands on the steps of the Federal Courthouse in Columbus, Ga., Friday, Sept. 11, 2009, with what she claims is a copy of a birth certificate for President Barak Obama from Mombass, British Protectorate of Kenya. Taitz represents U. S. Army Capt. Connie Rhodes in a civil complaint filed Friday questioning the country of Pres. Obama’s birth and his eligibility to be president.

Orly Taitz, the self-proclaimed “queen of birthers,” was denied access to President Barack Obama’s college records by an Orange County judge.

Taitz filed a motion to have President Obama’s college application and other records from Occidental College released.

Even after President Obama released his long-form Hawaii birth certificate, Taitz, a California attorney, called the legal document “not a true and correct image.”

NEW YORK — One of the biggest awards ever issued for racial harassment in high school — $1 million — was upheld Monday by a federal appeals panel that said it was fair for a jury to conclude a school district should have done more to stop demeaning, threatening and violent conduct directed at a student.

The decision by the 2nd U. S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Manhattan left in place the award for Anthony Zeno, a former student at Stissing Mountain High School in Dutchess County. The award had been reduced from the $1.25 million a jury originally awarded the now 23-year-old haircutter during a 2010 trial. The appeals court said the award wasn’t unreasonable given that payouts for harassment in similar cases have ranged from the low six figures to $1 million in one other instance.

Vanessa Marie Garrett-Rogers, 28, plead guilty to running over her ex-boyfriend with an SUV and will spend 12 years of a 30-year sentence behind bars.  She will spend the remaining years on probation.

According to a statement released by the Douglas County District Attorney’s office, she will also have to pay her victim, Darius Row, $58,000 in restitution.

Garrett-Rogers pleaded guilty to charges of aggravated battery, aggravated assault and leaving the scene of an accident for the July 2010 incident. Garrett-Rogers struck the victim, whose name was not released, at Pinebrook Mobile Homes hours after he ended the couple’s relationship, Assistant District Attorney Tom Kegley told the court.

Witnesses said Garrett-Rogers struck the victim, dragged him under her vehicle, and backed over him before fleeing the scene. The victim laid motionless on the ground until investigators arrived and transported him to Grady Memorial Hospital, where he was treated for a dislocated pelvis and a fractured femur, along with injuries to his skull and hands.
