Carron Washington, 20, the Florida father arrested Sunday for giving his infant daughter bleach to help alleviate her congestion, said in a press conference that he would never hurt his daughter and giving her bleach was “dumb.”

“It’s probably the dumbest decision I’ve made in my life,” Washington said to reporters.

According to Washington, his daughter Cadlynn, born December 14 with her esophagus detached from her stomach, has suffered from breathing problems since her birth. Allegedly taking the advice of a “pre-med” classmate at the College of Central Florida who claimed to use the dangerous remedy for her child, Washington poured less than a capful of bleach in about two ounces of formula.

On Saturday night and Sunday morning, the baby was fussy. After waking up at 1 a.m. Sunday, Washington put the bleach in the bottle and fed the child some of the formula, according to OPD reports.

The child vomited some of the liquid and started to cry.

“I panicked. I immediately called 911, called my parents, called her parents and started crying,” Washington said.

The child was rushed to Munroe Regional Medical Center and then to Shands.

A Florida man is charged in the deaths of two men after his daughter told her mother she witnessed the killings.

Laureano “Larry” Romero’s arrest report indicates his daughter said she saw him shoot DeAngelo Cox, 22, and Nick Lewis, 21, on Tuesday at a home in the Taft area.

Romero, 39, was arrested and faces two first-degree murder charges.

According to the report, the girl told her mother, “Daddy killed two black men.” Deputies said it was Romero’s mother who called authorities to report what her granddaughter said she saw.

Other witnesses apparently told deputies they saw Romero drive away from his Taft home after the shootings.

CHICAGO  — The prospect of prison looms over former U.S. Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. and his wife after they agreed to plead guilty to charges in an alleged scheme to spend $750,000 in campaign funds on personal items — including furs, a gold watch, a football signed by U.S. presidents and even a hat once owned by Michael Jackson.

It wasn’t immediately clear how much time either Jackson could end up doing when the legal drama inevitably reaches its climax before a federal sentencing judge within a few months. But judges frown on brazen breaches of public trust, said one former federal prosecutor, and that may mean the former Chicago congressman will likely to have to serve at least a few years behind bars.

“It shows hubris and arrogance that a politician sees his campaign coffers as his to spend as likes,” said Jeff Cramer, who as an assistant U.S. attorney in Chicago worked on multiple corruption cases. “With these kinds of charges, I cannot imagine him not going to prison … for 3½ or 4½ years.”

He thought Sandi Jackson, at most, would spend several months in prison.

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif.  — Authorities say fugitive former cop Christopher Dorner died of a single gunshot wound to the head as authorities were pumping tear gas into a mountain cabin during a deadly gun battle with sheriff’s deputies.

San Bernardino County sheriff’s Capt. Sheriff John McMahon told reporters Friday that it appears the wound was self-inflicted.

Deputies said they heard one final gunshot from the cabin as it was going up in flames during Tuesday’s gunbattle.

Before he died, Dorner killed one sheriff’s deputy and wounded another during a fierce shootout.

Authorities initially were unsure whether Dorner killed himself, had been struck by a deputy’s bullet or had died in a fire that engulfed the cabin during the shootout.

MINNEAPOLIS —A man charged with slapping a toddler on a Minneapolis-to-Atlanta flight is out of a job, his former employer said Sunday.

Joe Rickey Hundley, 60, of Hayden, Idaho, is no longer an employee of AGC Aerospace and Defense, Composites Group, Daniel Keeney of DPK Public Relations confirmed Sunday night.

Hundley was charged last week in federal court in Atlanta with simple assault for allegedly slapping the 2-year-old boy during the Feb. 8 flight. His attorney, Marcia Shein, of Decatur, Ga., said Saturday that Hundley will plead not guilty. The charge carries a maximum penalty of a year in jail.

The boy’s mother, Jessica Bennett, 33, told the FBI their flight was on final descent into Atlanta when her 19-month-old son started to cry due to the altitude change. Hundley “told her to shut that (N-word) baby up,” FBI special agent Daron Cheney said in a sworn statement. She said Hundley then slapped him in the face, scratching the boy below his right eye and causing him to scream even louder.

NEW YORK — At the age of 14, Justus Williams is one of the top-ranked youth chess players in the world. According to the U.S. Chess Federation, Justus, who was 12 at the time, became the youngest African-American National Master ever.  And he led his Bronx middle school team to the national championship. To top it all off, Justus recently traveled to the World Youth Chess Championship in Slovenia, where he competed for the title of the world’s best chess player under 14.

Justus has said he wants to be an international banker when he gets older. In the meantime, he’s working on video chess tutorials and is launching a national campaign to expose kids to chess.

“I didn’t think I was going to be good at chess, so just try everything, and try the things you don’t think you’d be good at. If those don’t work out, then try the things that you don’t think you’ll like,” Justus told the Norwood News.

Lawmakers’ political wrangling could cost Americans hundreds of thousands of jobs.

The $1.2 trillion across-the-board spending cuts scheduled to take place in March if Congress does nothing, could result in the loss of 750,000 jobs in 2013, Douglas Elmendorf, the director of the Congressional Budget Office told lawmakers Wednesday.

“We think that would reduce the level of employment by the end of the year [by] about 750,000 jobs,” Elmendorf said in the hearing, according to BuzzFeed.

The so-called sequester can be avoided if Congress comes up with an $85 billion alternative by March 1. Republicans are insisting the deal not raise taxes, while Democrats say a deal must include revenue increases, not just spending cuts.

President Obama fueled the battle during his State of the Union address Tuesday, accusing Republicans of shifting the possible cuts from defense and military spending to social programs.

Jason Jerome Hambrick was sentenced to 220 years for sexually molesting a 3-year-old girl back who was left in his care in 2011.

The incident occurred back in July 2011, when the little girl was left in Hambrick’s care for one month. Police investigators discovered that the 23-year-old man forced the toddler to engage in sexual acts that oftentimes resulted in physical injury to the child.

Relatives of the child noticed she had been making gestures that were sexual in nature and began to question how she came to know about such inappropriate behaviors.
