Shannon Sharpe
After getting his feet wet debating Stephen A. Smith during the NFL season, Shannon Sharpe is staying with ESPN for at least a few more months.
The network announced Sharpe has signed a new deal that will keep him as a regular contributor on First Take through the end of the NBA regular season.
The first act for Sharpe after signing a new deal with ESPN was coaching against Smith in the NBA All-Star Celebrity Game as part of All-Star Weekend on Friday night. Team Shannon defeated Team Stephen A. thanks to Micah Parsons’ MVP performance.
The Dallas Cowboys star had 37 points and 16 rebounds in a 100-91 victory for Team Shannon.
Sharpe originally joined the show in September where he was a weekly guest on Mondays and Tuesdays during the NFL season. He had been an analyst on FS1’s Undisputed, alongside Skip Bayless, since it debuted in 2016.
The Pro Football Hall of Famer cited “disrespect” from Bayless that dates back to an on-air debate they had about Tom Brady in December 2022 as the reason he left FS1.
Things seem to be going better for Sharpe at ESPN. He’s been a featured analyst on First Take with Smith and Molly Qerim, while also continuing to host the Club Shay Shay podcast.

Britney Deas
In a historic move, the University of Florida (UF) Supreme Court has appointed Britney Deas as its first Black woman chief justice.
At just 25 years old, Deas, a Haitian UF Levin College of Law student, has shattered barriers and made waves in her career path, marking a significant milestone for representation and diversity within the university’s legal system.
Deas, a native Floridian who hails from Miami and currently resides in Gainesville, received the groundbreaking news via email, sparking a moment of joy and accomplishment.
The announcement, made on Jan. 31, 2024, coincided with the onset of Black History Month, adding a deeper layer of significance to her achievement.
Reflecting on the importance of Black history and representation, Deas emphasized that her appointment serves as a testament to the enduring legacy of African Americans and their contributions to American society.
“Black history is American history,” she remarked, underscoring the need for ongoing recognition and celebration of Black achievements.
Having joined the UF Supreme Court as an associate justice in Spring 2023, Deas set her sights on the role of chief justice, a goal she realized in a remarkably short period. Now entrusted with new responsibilities, she is committed to upholding the principles of justice and fairness while serving as a beacon of inspiration for future generations.
Prior to her current position, Deas made history at the University of South Florida (USF) as the first Black woman to serve as student body president, breaking down barriers and paving the way for increased representation in student leadership roles. By Gee NY
