Task Force Arrests Man Facing First-Degree Murder Charge

A federal task force has arrested a man wanted in connection with a fatal drug overdose. There was an active warrant for the suspect’s arrest out of Hillsborough County. He was located and arrested in Enterprise, Alabama after fleeing the state.

On Tuesday, May 21, 2024, at 7 a. m., the U. S. Marshal’s Service Fugitive Task Force located 29-year-old Altwain Carlise, in Enterprise, Alabama.

There was an active warrant out for his arrest due to his involvement in selling drugs that led to a fatal overdose of a 23-year-old man on August 1, 2023.

Crime Stoppers of Tampa Bay was also instrumental in this arrest. They sent several tips to detectives, one of which led directly to Carlise’s arrest.

He is currently being held in the Coffee County Jail, and facing the following charges: murder in the 1st degree which resulted from the unlawful distribution of a controlled substance; trafficking in fentanyl; delivery of cocaine; and possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell.

Carlise is also facing additional drug trafficking charges in the state of Alabama.

        A man died from his injuries after he was shot at his apartment complex early Sunday morning.

        The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after they responded to a call early Sunday morning of a 24-year-old man being shot at the Royal Palm Key Apartments.

     He was shot in the chest and taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead, according to the sheriff’s office.

     According to HCSO, the victim lived with his girlfriend who called 911 after the shooting, deputies said at a news conference Sunday morning.

18-Year-Old Arrested In Soho Tampa After 2 Guns Located

      Brice Rivers was arrested after police say they recovered two guns, one of which was stolen, in his car.

      TPD approached two males, one identified as 18-year-old Bryce Rivers, loitering around a blue BMW before they walked off. In examining the car, TPD found a black and tan Taurus G2C nine-millimeter loaded inside.

       When Rivers and the other male returned to the BMW, officers spoke with both of them. After further investigating, police later discovered a loaded, purple Taurus G2C nine-millimeter handgun that was reported stolen back in 2021, police said.

      TPD arrested Rivers and charged him with carrying a concealed firearm. He was
taken to Orient Road Jail.

Former USF Football Player Critically Injured In Shooting, Brother Killed

        Former University of South Florida football player Brian Battie was critically injured after a weekend shooting in Sarasota that killed his brother, Tommie Battie.

     Battie, 22, is reportedly on a ventilator after a setback prevented him from breathing on his own.

     Battie was one of four people wounded early Saturday after a shooting in the 3400 block of 17th Street, according to the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office.

     Battie’s older brother Tommie, died in the shooting.

      Battie played at USF for three seasons before transferring to Auburn last season. He earned All-American honors as a kick-returner while at USF and ran for more than 1,000 in 2022.

Man Killed Pedestrian While Driving Without Valid License

        TPD says that a woman was killed after a driver without a valid license hit her with his vehicle.

      The police say they responded to a reported pedestrian-involved vehicle crash at the intersection of South Carter Street and West Julia Street.

     The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

     Investigators say they later discovered that Junior Castillo Sanchez was driving northbound in the area when he said he didn’t see the woman crossing at the intersection. TPD said that Sanchez has never been issued a valid driver’s license.

      Sanchez was arrested and taken to Orient Road Jail. He is charged with one felony count of driving without a valid driver’s license (death or serious bodily injury).

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office has arrested three individuals for selling stolen appliances from newly constructed homes. The thefts took place within Hillsborough, Marion, Hernando, Manatee and Sarasota Counties.

Through investigative means, detectives confirmed that Alberto Gomez Sardinas, 32, Jose Hernandez O’Relly, 36, and Yansiel Consuegra, 24, were obtaining items stolen from homes under construction and reselling them for a profit. The sales were occurring in a residential house at 819 S. Kings Ave, Brandon, as well as a storage facility at 6207 W. Hillsborough Av, in Tampa.

Detectives learned that Gomez Sardinas was also publishing the stolen appliances for sale online. During the investigation, detectives discovered that O’Relly’s 2022 Dodge 2500 Big Horn vehicle had been re-vinned, and believed to be an unreported stolen vehicle.

Detectives recovered more than $100,000 worth of stolen property.

Gomez Sardinas has been charged with four counts of dealing in stolen property, unlawful use of two-way communications device; and dealing in stolen property by use of the internet.

Hernandez O’Relly has been charged with four counts of dealing in stolen property; and grand theft in the third degree.

Yansiel Consuegra has been charged with dealing in stolen property.

More charges might be forthcoming.

This is an active investigation; any updates will come from the Public Affairs Office.

The investigation into who provided the stolen appliances to these suspects remains ongoing.

Police Identify Men Killed In SOHO Shooting

On Sunday, police responded to a shooting that took place early in the morning. Police responded to the calls for help around 3 a.m.

 According to Tampa Police, officers began the investigation shortly before 3:00 a.m., they responded to the 500 block of S. Howard Avenue.

Upon arrival at the location of the shooting and based on the preliminary investigation, it is believed that the three people injured were known to each other and had previously interacted with one another. Prior to shots being fired, the three adult men were engaged in a dispute that then escalated.

Officers assigned to the SOHO area were already on scene at the time of the incident as they were assigned to disburse the crowd.

As a result of the shooting, two of the men died as a result of their injuries. Those two subjects have been identified and their next of kin have been notified. They have been identified as 28-year-old Kenneth Washington and 24-year-old Kevon Christmas.
A third shooting victim remains hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

Detectives are working diligently to identify the suspect involved in the accident.
Tampa Police Chief Lee Bercaw said,  “My thoughts are with the loved ones impacted by this violence, especially on a day like today,”

“Our officers, detectives, and crime scene technicians have been working tirelessly to gather any available evidence and leads in this case.”

Student Arrested For Bringing Gun To School

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a student at Davidsen Middle School for bringing a weapon and ammunition on campus.

Last Friday, at 1 p.m., a School Resource Deputy and school administration at Davidsen Middle School were notified that Ethan Santana De Jesus, 14, had a firearm in his backpack.

A search of the student’s backpack revealed a 9mm Glock 45 handgun, 24 round extended magazine, and nine bullets (within the magazine).
The weapon was determined to be stolen from a vehicle burglary case from 2021 in the Brandon area.
     Ethan Santana De Jesus has been charged with possession of a firearm on school property and minor in possession of a firearm

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office commends the students who came forward to prevent a possible tragedy.

Palmetto Man Shoots Pregnant Mother In Road Rage

     A Riverview man was arrested after authorities say he shot a pregnant woman multiple times in a road rage incident after a crash in Palmetto.

     The Manatee County Sheriff’s Office stated that Vincent Steele, 50, was charged with five counts of attempted murder after a road rage shooting on Sunday stemming from a crash.

     On Sunday at around 5:30 p.m., a pickup truck was traveling north on Business U.S. 41 north in Palmetto when a BMW sedan, driven by Steele, attempted to pass it in the merge lane.

    The truck’s front bumper collided with Steele’s rear bumper, causing Steele to lose control and spin off into the grassy shoulder in the 6900 block of U.S. 41.

     According to MCSO, the victim stopped to check on the driver, at which point Steele got out of his BMW, ran up to the victim’s passenger door, and fired seven rounds into the truck.
