Tampa Police report that the prime suspect in a convenience store shooting was shot and later died Wednesday morning.<\/p>\n
Tampa Police arrived at a duplex on Mulberry Drive in Sulphur Springs to arrest Carlos Laboy<\/strong>. Laboy<\/strong>, 26, was identified as the prime suspect in the shooting of Yasmin Sara<\/strong> during a robbery last Wednesday. Sara<\/strong> is the owner and operator of Y&S Market on 12th Street and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard.<\/p>\n Police said when Laboy<\/strong> was leaving the duplex, he was confronted by officers who reportedly told him to stop and not move. Police said instead of complying with the officers, Laboy<\/strong> made a sudden move toward his waistband. The report states the officers who knew Laboy<\/strong> had shot Sara<\/strong> last week, believed he was reaching for a gun. One of the officers fired at least one shot at Laboy<\/strong>, hitting him in the hip. He was transported to a local hospital in critical condition. At 5:36 a.m., he was pronounced dead.<\/p>\n Police said as Laboy<\/strong> was being transported to the hospital, they got news that Sara<\/strong>, 55, had taken a turn for the worse and was rushed into surgery. He remains in critical condition.<\/p>\n On Monday, officers obtained a gun they believed was used in the shooting through a confidential source. That individual led officers to the getaway driver, identified as 23-year-old Pedro Torres<\/strong>, who was arrested Tuesday night. Police said he cooperated with officers and identified Laboy<\/strong> as the one who shot Sara<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Detectives said Laboy<\/strong> and Torres<\/strong> met in prison.<\/p>\n Torres<\/strong> is currently being held on charges of robbery with a firearm, tampering with physical evidence, possession of a firearm with the serial number removed, being a felon in possession of a firearm, and driving with a suspended license.<\/p>\n Police spokesperson, Laura McElroy<\/strong>, said Torres<\/strong> will also be charged with either felony attempted murder or felony murder, depending on whether Sara<\/strong> survives.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Tampa Police report that the prime suspect in a convenience store shooting was shot and later died Wednesday morning.
