HOLTON<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\" align=\"center\"><strong>Sentinel City Editor<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong> <\/strong>On Wednesday evening, <strong>Mayor Bob Buckhorn<\/strong> announced he would allocate funding to repair an East Tampa swimming pool. The pool closed three years ago.<\/p>\n<p>During the regular City Council meeting last week, residents in the area criticized the city for not making repairs that would allow it to meet federal law requirements.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Santiago Corrada,<\/strong> Chief of Staff for the City of Tampa said, \u201cWe had always allocated $6.5 million to deal with some of our aquatic centers. That was never in question. We were waiting for a consultant to let us know exactly what was wrong and how much it would cost.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Corrada<\/strong> further stated that although the pool has been closed for three years, the consultant only began looking into the cost in May 2011.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe consultant gave us specific issues of what is wrong with the pool and an estimated cost of $1.2 million for the renovation. We could save money by not doing some things, but if we are going to do it, we\u2019re going to do it right the first time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>After hearing the cost of making the repairs, <strong>Corrada <\/strong>said <strong>Mayor Bob Buckhorn<\/strong> felt it was a reasonable amount. \u201cHe said, \u2018Let\u2019s move on it. Let\u2019s get it fixed.\u2019\u201d <strong>[private]<\/strong><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_8903\" style=\"width: 160px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/flsentinel.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/Frank-Reddick.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-8903\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-8903\" src=\"https:\/\/flsentinel.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/Frank-Reddick-150x150.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-8903\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Frank Reddick<\/p><\/div>\n<p><strong>Councilman<\/strong> <strong>Frank Reddick, <\/strong>who was very vocal about the issue during last week\u2019s meeting said, \u201cI am happy <strong>Mayor Buckhorn<\/strong> realized the Williams Park Pool is a valuable asset to that entire community and made the decision to get it repaired.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m a very happy man right now. Before, I was very frustrated because I couldn\u2019t understand why, after three years, nothing had been done to repair the pool. Now, everyone is happy the Mayor stepped up.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Corrada<\/strong> also stated that the timeline in which the repairs are made also depends on the Hillsborough\u00a0 County Health Department\u2019s Building Department.<\/p>\n<p>He also stated that some of the confusion occurred because there were two studies, the pool issue and a broader study of Williams Park, being conducted simultaneously. <strong>[\/private]<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>BY IRIS B.
