John Singleton suffered a stroke at the hospital earlier this week but is under “great medical care,” the Singleton family said Saturday in a statement after multiple reports that the director had been hospitalized.<\/p>\n
The 51-year-old\u00a0Boyz n the Hood<\/em>\u00a0helmer had the episode while seeking medical attention, contrary to some prior reports, the family said. “On Wednesday, April 17th our beloved son\/father, John Singleton, suffered a stroke while at the hospital. John is currently in the ICU and under great medical care,” their statement read. “We ask that privacy be given to him and our family at this time and appreciate all of the prayers that have been pouring in from his fans, friends and colleagues.”<\/p>\n Singleton \u2014 whose r\u00e9sum\u00e9 includes his directing debut\u00a0Boyz n the Hood<\/em>, which earned him Oscar nominations for best director and best original screenplay;\u00a0Shaft<\/em>;\u00a02 Fast 2 Furious<\/em>;\u00a0Four Brothers<\/em>; the music video for Michael Jackson’s “Remember the Time”; and episodes of\u00a0Empire, Billions, 30 for 30<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0American Crime Story<\/em>\u00a0\u2014 is co-creator and executive producer of FX’s\u00a0Snowfall<\/em><\/a>, which was\u00a0renewed for a third season<\/a>\u00a0in September. As of earlier this month, the cast was\u00a0doing a table read<\/a>\u00a0for season three’s sixth episode.<\/p>\n “We are sad to learn the news of John\u2019s condition, but we know he’s a fighter.
