{"id":8501,"date":"2011-07-18T16:02:20","date_gmt":"2011-07-18T20:02:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/flsentinel.com\/?p=8501"},"modified":"2011-07-18T14:30:14","modified_gmt":"2011-07-18T18:30:14","slug":"former-nfl-running-back-charged-with-stealing-gas","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/flsentinel.com\/?p=8501","title":{"rendered":"Former NFL Running Back Charged With Stealing Gas"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>SALT LAKE CITY \u2014 Former Philadelphia Eagles running back <strong>Reno Mahe<\/strong> surrendered to authorities this week to face a criminal theft charge in Utah.<br \/>\n<strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Mahe<\/strong> and four others are charged in Utah\u2019s 3rd District Court with stealing more than $15,000 in gasoline in 2010 from a construction company in a Salt Lake City suburb, according to court documents.<\/p>\n<p>Court records indicate that<strong> Mahe<\/strong>, a former BYU standout, was booked into a Salt Lake County jail Thursday and released pending his next hearing. A scheduling conference in <strong>Mahe\u2019s<\/strong> case is set for Aug. 5.<\/p>\n<p>Another former BYU football player, <strong>Tevita Ofahengaue<\/strong>, also is charged with a single count of theft, as are <strong>Michael Andrus<\/strong>, <strong>Mark Evers<\/strong> and<strong> Fred Prescott<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>An affidavit of probable cause signed by Murray City Police<strong> Detective Tyler Evans<\/strong> said A-Core Concrete Cutting officials discovered one of their employees, <strong>Evers<\/strong>, was using a gas code to steal gasoline from the company for the last four years. The firm conducted an audit and calculated a loss of more than $55,000 between June 18, 2006, and Oct. 17, 2010.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt wasn\u2019t like I needed (A-Core)\u2019s gas,\u201d he said last year, according to the Deseret News. \u201cI\u2019ll pay, if that\u2019s the deal. I\u2019ll pay my portion back if he wasn\u2019t allowed to give it to me. I\u2019m not worried about that part.
