HOLTON<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Sentinel City Editor<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Hillsborough County Sheriff\u2019s Office is investigating a murder that took place in the early hours on the 4th of July. An intruder entered the home of a 36-year-old Gibsonton woman and fatally stabbed her to death as she slept.<\/p>\n<p>A 9-1-1\u00a0 call was received at 4:03 a.m., Monday regarding an intruder entering\u00a0 the Lake Vista Drive home and attacking <strong>Ms. Nicole Renee Williams<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Police say the male suspect broke into the house entering through a window. Once inside, the suspect allegedly armed himself with a kitchen knife and attacked <strong>Ms. Williams<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Five other people were in the home at the time of the fatal attack. <strong>Ms. Williams\u2019 <\/strong>35-year-old boyfriend, his 19-year-old son; her two sons, ages 14 and 16, and her 20-year-old daughter.<\/p>\n<p>During the investigation, police found the knife outside of the home. They were also told by the witnesses inside the house that the attacker was <strong>Ms. Williams<\/strong>\u2019 ex-husband, 34-year-old <strong>Egan Fernando Atkins<\/strong>.<strong> Ms. Williams<\/strong> and <strong>Atkins<\/strong> were recently divorced. He reportedly fled the scene in a vehicle that belonged to his girlfriend. <strong>Atkins<\/strong> ditched the car, but it was located on Monday, police said.<strong>[private]<\/strong><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_8254\" style=\"width: 160px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/flsentinel.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/Nicole-Rene-Williams-.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-8254\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-8254\" src=\"https:\/\/flsentinel.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/Nicole-Rene-Williams--150x150.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-8254\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Nicole Rene Williams<\/p><\/div>\n<p>A spokesperson for the Hillsborough County Sheriff\u2019s Office said there had been one\u00a0 prior call on May 12, 2011 pertaining to domestic violence at\u00a0 the same address, involving <strong>Atkins<\/strong>. However, when deputies arrived, they were told the situation had been resolved. The officers did not originate a report, the spokesperson said.<\/p>\n<p>After reports of the attack were made public, detectives received a tip that took them to the 2800 block of Anthony Street. There, <strong>Egan Atkins<\/strong> was arrested without incident at 6:40 p.m., Tuesday. <strong>Atkins<\/strong> faces first-degree murder and armed burglary charges. He went before a judge on Wednesday\u00a0 and is being held without bond.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Atkins<\/strong> has a criminal history in Hillsborough County that dates back to 1996. The majority of those arrests revolve around domestic violence, stalking and violation of domestic violence injunctions. According to reports, these crimes were committed against someone other than <strong>Ms. Williams<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Atkins<\/strong> had been jailed for several weeks at a time. In February 1997, he was released from jail after serving 83 days for battery, and 18 days for armed burglary in April 1997.<\/p>\n<p>In April 2000, <strong>Atkins<\/strong> was arrested for aggravated stalking and violation of community control. He was jailed for 3 months on the charge.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Victim<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A Tampa native, <strong>Ms. Williams <\/strong>was the daughter of <strong>Flossie Williams Sallet<\/strong> and <strong>Lynwood Williams,<\/strong> and the granddaughter of well know pastor, <strong>Rev. Jacob Jordan<\/strong>. She attended the public schools of Hillsborough County, including Brandon High School. She completed her education in Albany, Georgia. She also earned a degree in Business Education.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ms. Williams<\/strong> was employed as a Customer Service Representative with Verizon. She was also a long time member of Northside Missionary Baptist Church.<br \/>\nIn addition to her parents, <strong>Ms. Williams<\/strong> is survived by 3 children,\u00a0 other grandparents, <strong>Ms. Lucille Jordan<\/strong> and <strong>Ms. Betty Jean Sallet <\/strong>and numerous other relatives.<\/p>\n<p>Funeral services for <strong>Ms. Williams<\/strong> will be held at\u00a0 2 p.m., Saturday, July 9th, at Northside Missionary Baptist Church.
