He reportedly fell into the arms of his sister,<strong> Kendra<\/strong>, immediately after he was shot. Police have charged <strong>Jimmy Cruz<\/strong> in the shooting.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re still trying to get over <strong>JJ<\/strong> not being around anymore,\u201d said <strong>Kendra<\/strong>. \u201cHe was so upbeat and positive about his future, and now he\u2019s gone. It\u2019s tough to move on after that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On Father\u2019s Day, the family tried to ease their sorrow with a Father\u2019s day bash at <strong>Kendra\u2019s<\/strong> home on Columbus Drive. Her uncle, <strong>Benjamin York<\/strong>, was there along with other family members.<\/p>\n<p>An incident started during the party, and <strong>York<\/strong> went outside to calm one of the people down who had been involved.<\/p>\n<p>Tampa Police reported that <strong>York<\/strong> had approached the car of a man who was leaving, trying to calm him down. As a result, <strong>York<\/strong> was hit and dragged 420 feet by the driver. Police have not made any arrests in the case.<\/p>\n<p>According to <strong>Kendra<\/strong>, her uncle suffered severe burns, lost an ear, and has several broken ribs.<strong>[private]<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut, he\u2019s alive, and that\u2019s the important thing. It\u2019s hard trying to deal with the death of someone close to you when you almost have to deal with it happening to another relative. The entire incident shook us all.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Kendra<\/strong> said her uncle is recovering in the hospital, but the family is weary and trying to draw strength from the older members.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe really need the guidance of our elders right now. This is the time when their wisdom will come in handy, and help us get through this near tragedy and the lost of <strong>JJ.<\/strong>\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Kendra <\/strong>said she and other family members plan on attending every hearing involving JJ\u2019s shooter.<strong>[\/private]<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Veronica York, Kendra Revear and other family members of Walter \u201cJJ\u201d Revear are still trying to deal with his death.
