{"id":7412,"date":"2011-06-06T16:42:03","date_gmt":"2011-06-06T20:42:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/flsentinel.com\/?p=7412"},"modified":"2011-06-06T16:42:58","modified_gmt":"2011-06-06T20:42:58","slug":"community-matriarch-dies-after-lengthy-illness","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/flsentinel.com\/?p=7412","title":{"rendered":"Matriarch Dies After Lengthy Illness"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>If you were growing up in the Hyde Park and West Tampa communities during the 1960s, you know <strong>Mrs. Nell Pugh<\/strong>. <strong>Mrs. Pugh<\/strong> represented the type of woman that is missing from many communities today; a neighborhood mom who everyone respected and listened to.<\/p>\n<p>Last Wednesday, <strong>Mrs. Pugh<\/strong> passed away after a long battle with diabetes and other ailments. She was 77.<strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The family has asked<strong> <\/strong>Ray Williams Funeral Home to assist them with arrangements.<strong>[private]<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>With eight children of her own, <strong>Mrs. Pugh<\/strong> was still capable of gaining the respect of other children in the community.<\/p>\n<p>The Grove Hill, Alabama native came to Tampa in 1955 with three children and pregnant with a fourth. She worked as a supervisor at the Holiday Inn until her retirement.<\/p>\n<p>One West Tampa resident recalls<strong> Mrs. Pugh<\/strong> and how everyone was drawn to her and her house.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe lived a block over, and most of the boys were drawn to her house because of her lovely daughters,\u201d said <strong>Bernard Jones<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe was a task master, and you definitely had to deal with her before you could even speak to any of her girls.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Jones <\/strong>said what he admired the most about <strong>Mrs. Pugh<\/strong> was her toughness and humility.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe was a very humble woman. She would smile all the time, and never had a bad word to say about anyone.
