But in a sign that maybe they aren\u2019t operating totally on the level, Jonathan Swan at Axios reports that a \u201csenior House Republicans office\u201d\u00a0<strong>has compiled a spreadsheet\u00a0<\/strong>of all the things they believe House Democrats will investigate if they win a majority in November \u2014and they are terrified of what these inquiries might turn up.<\/p>\n<p>In total defiance of the (<strong>flawed<\/strong>) logic of the Madisonian constitutional system, Republicans have used their control of the congressional agenda to stymie any kind of rigorous investigation into dozens of urgent scandals swirling around the Trump administration.<\/p>\n<p>Swan reports that \u201cit has churned Republican stomachs\u201dand includes the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>President Trump\u2019s tax returns<\/li>\n<li>Trump family businesses \u2014and whether they comply with the Constitution\u2019s emoluments clause, including the Chinese trademark grant to the Trump Organization<\/li>\n<li>Trump\u2019s dealings with Russia, including the president\u2019s preparation for his meeting with Vladimir Putin<\/li>\n<li>The payment to Stephanie Clifford \u2014a.k.a. Stormy Daniels<\/li>\n<li>James Comey\u2019s firing<\/li>\n<li>Trump\u2019s firing of U.S. attorneys<\/li>\n<li>Trump\u2019s proposed transgender ban for the military<\/li>\n<li>Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin\u2019s business dealings<\/li>\n<li>White House staff\u2019s personal email use<\/li>\n<li>Cabinet secretary travel, office expenses, and other misused perks<\/li>\n<li>Discussion of classified information at Mar-a-Lago<\/li>\n<li>Jared Kushner\u2019s ethics law compliance<\/li>\n<li>Dismissal of members of the EPA board of scientific counselors<\/li>\n<li>The travel ban<\/li>\n<li>Family separation policy<\/li>\n<li>Hurricane response in Puerto Rico<\/li>\n<li>Election security and hacking attempts<\/li>\n<li>White House security clearances<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The striking thing about it is that almost everything on this list is stuff that\u2019s urgently worthy of investigation.<\/p>\n<p>Congress should be looking into election security and Trump\u2019s dealings with Russia, especially since many Republican members of Congress in their own public statements have acknowledged that there\u2019s something weird about Trump\u2019s takes on these matters.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It\u2019s not a short list.
