{"id":6968,"date":"2011-05-23T16:16:30","date_gmt":"2011-05-23T20:16:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/flsentinel.com\/?p=6968"},"modified":"2011-05-23T15:21:04","modified_gmt":"2011-05-23T19:21:04","slug":"bonds-post-trial-hearing-postponed-until-june-17","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/flsentinel.com\/?p=6968","title":{"rendered":"Bonds&#8217; Post-Trial Hearing Postponed Until June 17"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>SAN FRANCISCO &#8212; <strong>Barry Bonds&#8217; <\/strong>post-trial hearing was postponed from Friday to June 17, giving prosecutors more time to consider whether to retry the home run king and allowing the former player&#8217;s lawyers another month to sharpen their arguments for throwing out the lone conviction.<\/p>\n<p>The seven-time NL MVP was convicted of one count of obstruction of justice April 13 for giving an evasive answer in 2003 to a grand jury investigating the distribution of performance-enhancing drugs.<\/p>\n<p>The federal court jury, which deliberated for four days, deadlocked on three counts charging the former San Francisco Giants star with making false statements when he denied knowingly using performance-enhancing drugs and when he said only his doctors injected him.<br \/>\n<strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Bonds&#8217;<\/strong> lawyers and federal prosecutors announced an agreement on the delay Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>The deadline for<strong> Bonds&#8217;<\/strong> motions asking U.S. District<strong> Judge Susan Illston<\/strong> to overrule the jury and find him not guilty on the obstruction count or &#8212; alternatively &#8212; to order a new trial also was reset to June 17.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>SAN FRANCISCO &#8212; Barry Bonds&#8217; post-trial hearing was postponed from Friday to June 17, giving prosecutors more time to consider whether to retry the home run king and allowing the former player&#8217;s lawyers another month to sharpen their arguments for throwing out the lone conviction.
