{"id":6295,"date":"2011-05-02T16:53:48","date_gmt":"2011-05-02T20:53:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/flsentinel.com\/?p=6295"},"modified":"2011-05-02T16:53:48","modified_gmt":"2011-05-02T20:53:48","slug":"local-freedom-riders-appear-on-oprah","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/flsentinel.com\/?p=6295","title":{"rendered":"Local Freedom Riders Appear On Oprah"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The heroic story of the Freedom Riders takes center stage on the <em>&#8216;Oprah Winfrey Show&#8217;<\/em> this week.\u00a0 Nearly 200 men and women, who defied the segregation laws of the Jim Crow South to end segregation along interstate travel in the 1960s, will tell their story to <strong>Oprah<\/strong> during Wednesday\u2019s (May 4) broadcast.<\/p>\n<p>Apollo Beach resident, <strong>Kredelle Petway<\/strong>, is one of the original Freedom Riders invited to participate in the show\u2019s taping in Chicago.<\/p>\n<p>She told her story to the <strong><em>Florida Sentinel<\/em><\/strong> in March in celebration of the movement\u2019s 50th Anniversary and premier of the made for television movie <strong><em>&#8216;Freedom Riders&#8217;<\/em><\/strong>, which debuted at the downtown Tampa Theater last month.\u00a0 She says her appearance on <strong>Oprah<\/strong> was a once in a lifetime experience.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Pictured: More than 200 Freedom Riders joined Oprah Winfrey for the taping of the show which airs in Tampa on Wednesday.
