{"id":6029,"date":"2011-04-25T15:54:07","date_gmt":"2011-04-25T19:54:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/flsentinel.com\/?p=6029"},"modified":"2011-04-25T15:54:40","modified_gmt":"2011-04-25T19:54:40","slug":"judge-says-carl-lewis-ok-to-run-for-nj-office","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/flsentinel.com\/?p=6029","title":{"rendered":"Judge Says Carl Lewis OK To Run For NJ Office"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>TRENTON, NJ \u2014 Nine-time Olympic gold medalist <strong>Carl Lewis<\/strong> should be allowed to continue his bid for the New Jersey Senate because Republicans have failed to prove he doesn\u2019t live in the state, a judge ruled Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>Administrative Law <strong>Judge John Schuster, III<\/strong> recommended that a petition to strip <strong>Lewis\u2019<\/strong> name from the June primary ballot be dismissed.<\/p>\n<p>The judge cautioned that he had not found that <strong>Lewis<\/strong>, among the greatest athletes of all time, had attained residency status \u2014 only that the challengers didn\u2019t meet the burden of proof that he lives elsewhere.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Lewis<\/strong>, who as a track star in the 1980s and \u201890s was noted for his blistering pace and dominance of the long jump and 100-meter dash, is a Democrat making his first run for elected office. Republicans challenged his bid to run in the primary by claiming he had not lived in the state the required four years.<\/p>\n<p>The judge, who heard the case only a day before he issued his nonbinding decision, said the time constraints prohibited a record from being fully developed.
