He was 58 years old.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Andrew L. Manning<\/strong> was admitted to the hospital last Sunday, March 6, 2011, and died on Monday, March 7, 2011 of congestive heart failure, a caregiver stated.<\/p>\n<p>Court documents state that with the assistance of the NAACP Legal Defense Fund, Attorneys <strong>Constance Baker Motley<\/strong>,<strong> Thurgood Marshall<\/strong> and others, the <strong>Manning<\/strong> family and the family of <strong>Shayron R. Reed<\/strong> filed suit in 1958 to take Hillsborough County to court. The 4 African American parents (<strong>Andrew<\/strong> and <strong>Willie Manning<\/strong> and<strong> Sanders<\/strong> and <strong>Sandra Reed<\/strong>) said they were not allowed to send their children to schools in their neighborhood.<\/p>\n<p>In 1962, the federal court said Hillsborough County was operating an illegal segregated school. Desegregation was ordered in 1971 in the Middle District of Florida by <strong>Judge Ben Krentzman<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 19, 2 p. m. at Rest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery.
