{"id":3995,"date":"2011-02-28T17:01:05","date_gmt":"2011-02-28T22:01:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/flsentinel.com\/?p=3995"},"modified":"2011-02-28T17:01:05","modified_gmt":"2011-02-28T22:01:05","slug":"first-black-20-year-fireman-dies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/flsentinel.com\/?p=3995","title":{"rendered":"First Black 20-Year Fireman Dies"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The first African American to accept a longevity retirement from the City of Tampa Fire Department died last Wednesday. <strong>Mr. Lorenzo \u201cCookie\u201d Holmes<\/strong> was 66.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mr. Holmes<\/strong> served as a Driver\/Engineer and Inspector for the Loss Management Office, (formerly known as Fire Prevention Bureau), and was assigned to Engine 10.<\/p>\n<p>In 1990, after more than 20 years of service, <strong>Mr. Holmes<\/strong> retired from the fire department. He became the first African American to receive a longevity retirement from the department.<\/p>\n<p>Funeral services for <strong>Mr. Holmes<\/strong> will take place on Friday, March 4th, 11 a.m., at Mount Calvary Seventh Day Adventist Church.
