Griffith<\/strong> was killed on November 9, 1998 during a robbery involving cocaine at 9508 North 13th Street. Police said he was shot in the back of the head.<\/p>\n<p>At the time of the murder, <strong>Griffith<\/strong> was known as John Doe until last Friday. <strong>Griffith<\/strong>, then 20, was from Marion, Ohio.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Samuel Hewitt<\/strong>, then 14, was convicted in the killing. <strong>Robert Hewitt<\/strong>, then 16, was convicted of tampering with evidence.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_3686\" style=\"width: 160px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/flsentinel.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/Samuel-Hewitt.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3686\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-3686\" src=\"https:\/\/flsentinel.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/Samuel-Hewitt-150x150.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-3686\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Samuel Hewitt<\/p><\/div>\n<div id=\"attachment_3687\" style=\"width: 160px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/flsentinel.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/Robert-Hewitt.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3687\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-3687 \" src=\"https:\/\/flsentinel.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/Robert-Hewitt-150x150.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-3687\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Robert Hewitt<\/p><\/div>\n<p><strong>Griffith&#8217;s<\/strong> mother reported him missing two years after his death and again in 2006.<\/p>\n<p>The Ohio dispatcher was viewing a missing persons database. And found descriptions that pointed to <strong>Griffith<\/strong>, including a heart tattoo on his left hand. He gave the information to police.<\/p>\n<p>Hillsborough County Medical Examiners determined that fingerprints from Marion, Ohio matched those on file in Tampa of the John Doe.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Griffith&#8217;s<\/strong> mother, <strong>Brenda Bautista<\/strong>, now living in Winter Haven, Florida, was called and told about the fate of her son.<\/p>\n<p>Authorities said it is not clear why <strong>Griffith<\/strong> was in Tampa.
