{"id":24163,"date":"2013-09-09T15:35:25","date_gmt":"2013-09-09T19:35:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/flsentinel.com\/?p=24163"},"modified":"2013-09-09T15:35:25","modified_gmt":"2013-09-09T19:35:25","slug":"naacp-president-to-step-down-in-january","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/flsentinel.com\/?p=24163","title":{"rendered":"NAACP  President To Step Down In January"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In a surprise move, NAACP <b>President Benjamin Jealous<\/b>, 40, has announced that he is stepping down from the position in January, 2014.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLeadership knows when to step up and when to step down,\u201d <b>Jealous<\/b> said. \u201cThis day I can say with pride that I\u2019m prepared to step down and make room for the next person who will lead this organization to its next chapter.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Citing family reasons, <b>Jealous<\/b> said that his high-profile career has caused him to sacrifice time with his wife, <b>Lia Epperson<\/b>, and children, daughter, <b>Morgan<\/b>, 7, and son, <b>Jack<\/b>, 13 months, and that is something that he intends to change.<\/p>\n<p>Still, the hum of the Civil Rights Movement still courses through <b>Jealous\u2019<\/b> veins: \u201cI\u2019m really going to miss the street fights we\u2019ve been in.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The civil rights leader said he\u2019s satisfied that he will leave an organization in much better condition than it was when he took over five years ago.<\/p>\n<p>Under <b>Jealous<\/b>, the donor base has grown from 16,422 in 2007, just before he started, to 132,543 last year. Revenue has grown from $25.7 million in 2008 to $46 million in 2012.
