{"id":23568,"date":"2013-08-19T15:46:22","date_gmt":"2013-08-19T19:46:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/flsentinel.com\/?p=23568"},"modified":"2013-08-19T15:46:22","modified_gmt":"2013-08-19T19:46:22","slug":"robin-thicke-sues-marvin-gaye-family-funkadelic-over-blurred-lines-allegations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/flsentinel.com\/?p=23568","title":{"rendered":"Robin Thicke Sues Marvin Gaye Family, Funkadelic Over \u2018Blurred Lines\u2019 Allegations"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>Robin Thicke<\/b>, <b>Pharrell Williams<\/b> and Clifford Harris, Jr. filed a lawsuit Thursday in California federal court against <b>Marvin Gaye\u2019s<\/b> family and Bridgeport Music.<\/p>\n<p>Plaintiffs, who have the utmost respect for and admiration of <b>Marvin Gaye<\/b>, <b>Funkadelic<\/b> and their musical legacies, reluctantly file this action in the face of multiple adverse claims from alleged successors in interest to those artists. Defendants continue to insist that plaintiffs\u2019 massively successful composition, <em>\u2018Blurred Lines,\u2019<\/em> copies \u2018their\u2019 compositions.<\/p>\n<p>In the suit, <b>Thicke<\/b>, <b>Williams<\/b> and <b>Harris Jr.<\/b> claim the <b>Gaye <\/b>family is alleging <em>\u201cBlurred Lines\u201d<\/em> and Gaye\u2019s single<em> \u201cGot to Give It Up\u201d<\/em> sound and feel the same.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<b>Gaye <\/b>defendants are claiming ownership of an entire genre, as opposed to a specific work,\u201d the lawsuit states. It also points out that \u201cbeing reminiscent of a \u2018sound\u2019 is not copyright infringement.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The suit also claims <b>Funkadelic <\/b>is alleging similarities between<em> \u201cBlurred Lines\u201d<\/em> and Funkadelic\u2019s<em> \u201cSexy Ways.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The lawsuit says that Bridgeport Music, who owns <em>\u201cSexy Ways,\u201d<\/em> notified the musicians that if they did not pay a monetary settlement that Bridgeport would initiate litigation for copyright infringement.
