{"id":22664,"date":"2013-07-22T15:51:08","date_gmt":"2013-07-22T19:51:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/flsentinel.com\/?p=22664"},"modified":"2013-07-22T15:51:08","modified_gmt":"2013-07-22T19:51:08","slug":"no-justice-no-peace-detroit-rallies-for-trayvon-martin","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/flsentinel.com\/?p=22664","title":{"rendered":"\u2018No Justice, No Peace\u2019: Detroit Rallies For Trayvon Martin"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>DETROIT \u2013 Amid loud chants of \u201cNo Justice, No Peace,\u201d thousands of protesters gathered outside of Detroit\u2019s federal building on Saturday to demand the U.S. Justice Department bring federal hate crime charges against <strong>George Zimmerman<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The rally, organized by the National Action Network and led by many of the city\u2019s religious leaders, was one of 100 to take place across the country. \u201cThis movement for <strong>Trayvon Martin<\/strong> \u2013 for justice for<strong> Trayvon<\/strong> \u2013 has brought in a lot of first-time activists,\u201d said <strong>Rev. Charles Williams, III,<\/strong> the head of the National Action Network\u2019s Detroit chapter.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Williams<\/strong>, who said during the rally that the state of Florida failed to get justice for <strong>Martin<\/strong>, said that the verdict was bigger than <strong>Trayvon Martin\u2019s <\/strong>death. \u201cIt\u2019s also about voting rights and affirmative action and women\u2019s rights and so many other things that has caused people to say that they\u2019re ready to stand up and fight and be willing to speak up,\u201d <strong>Williams <\/strong>added.<\/p>\n<p>Like the rallies in other cities such as New York, Chicago, Atlanta, Los Angeles, Houston, and Philadelphia, the rally attracted a racially and culturally diverse crowd. <strong>Martin<\/strong>, along with <strong>Marissa Alexander<\/strong>, was held up as an example of the Stand Your Ground laws being a mockery of justice.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>DETROIT \u2013 Amid loud chants of \u201cNo Justice, No Peace,\u201d thousands of protesters gathered outside of Detroit\u2019s federal building on Saturday to demand the U.S. Justice Department bring federal hate crime charges against George Zimmerman.
