HOLTON<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Sentinel City Editor<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>When the verdict in the<strong> George Zimmerman <\/strong>murder trial was read, it was met with disbelief by many. Emotions ran high throughout the country.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ms. Rholiya Arnao <\/strong>and her daughter,<strong> Kaliya Walker, <\/strong>watched the announcement and both cried. \u201cMy daughter said someone needs to do something and I said you can. She asked, \u2018what can I do?\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ms. Arnao<\/strong> didn\u2019t realize it, but she had spurred her 15-year-old daughter into action. \u201cShe didn\u2019t tell me what she was doing, but she created a flyer advertising <strong><em>\u201cPeace Rally for Trayvon Martin\u201d<\/em><\/strong> and posted them on Facebook and other social media.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ms. Arnao<\/strong> said that when she did find out about the flyer, she let <strong>Kaliya <\/strong>know that she was willing to help. The mother and daughter team soon learned that <strong>Mrs. Rhonda Thompson, Ms. Arnao\u2019s <\/strong>mom (and<strong> Kilya\u2019s <\/strong>grandmother, was also willing to help).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy mother said, \u201cWhatever you need help with, I\u2019ll help.\u201d And that was the birth of a family affair <strong>Kilya<\/strong> appropriately named <strong><em>\u201cWe Are One.\u201d \u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Ms. Arnao<\/strong> said she began speaking to churches and people in the Progress Village area, and they liked the idea. Meanwhile, the flyer was being shared on the social media. Their plan was to have everyone gather at the federal courthouse in downtown Tampa to participate in the peaceful demonstration Saturday, July 20<sup>th<\/sup>, from 12 noon until 3 p.m.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Kaliya, <\/strong>who plans to become an attorney<strong> <\/strong>said, \u201cI didn\u2019t think anyone else was going to do it, and something needed to be done.\u00a0 I felt like that if <strong>Trayvon<\/strong> was of another race there would have been justice for him. Blacks didn\u2019t come together. We always talk about what we\u2019re going to do, but we don\u2019t.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As a teenager, <strong>Kaliya<\/strong> said she can relate to the situation involving <strong>Trayvon Martin<\/strong>. She will be a freshman at East Bay High School when school begins next month.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The family had no idea that Reverend Al Sharpton was planning a national \u201cJustice For Trayvon\u201d rally. As of Wednesday, more than 100 cities planned to gather at federal courthouses this weekend.<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>BY IRIS B.
