{"id":21959,"date":"2013-06-18T09:49:04","date_gmt":"2013-06-18T13:49:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/flsentinel.com\/?p=21959"},"modified":"2013-06-18T09:49:04","modified_gmt":"2013-06-18T13:49:04","slug":"trayvon-martins-father-mother-fight-for-his-image","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/flsentinel.com\/?p=21959","title":{"rendered":"Trayvon Martin\u2019s Father, Mother Fight For His Image"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>SANFORD, Fla. \u2014 <strong>Tracy Martin <\/strong>and <strong>Sybrina Fulton<\/strong> are in the car with their attorney, <strong>Ben Crump<\/strong>, after a long day in the Seminole County Criminal Court in Sanford, Florida, where they have been daily observers since jury selection began June 10th, in the trial of <strong>George Zimmerman<\/strong>, the man who shot their 17-year-old son<strong> Trayvon Marti<\/strong>n to death in February 2012.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Zimmerman <\/strong>has pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou can\u2019t describe the feeling when you learn that your loved one has been lost. That\u2019s like \u2026\u201d <strong>Martin<\/strong> says before trailing off. As the case plays out in court, both pa-rents say they\u2019re fighting a daily battle to preserve the memory of the Trayvon they knew, and to not let him become a media caricature.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think one of the things that everybody seems to overlook is the fact that, OK, that was our child,\u201d <strong>Martin <\/strong>said Wednesday, in a telephone interview. \u201cSo whatever your opinion is of him, that\u2019s your opinion. At the end of the day that was our child, and we knew our child and we loved him.
