{"id":21911,"date":"2013-06-13T16:49:22","date_gmt":"2013-06-13T20:49:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/flsentinel.com\/?p=21911"},"modified":"2013-06-13T16:49:22","modified_gmt":"2013-06-13T20:49:22","slug":"oprah-winfrey-giving-12m-to-new-african-american-museum","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/flsentinel.com\/?p=21911","title":{"rendered":"Oprah Winfrey Giving $12M To New African-American Museum"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>WASHINGTON\u00a0 \u2014 <strong>Oprah Winfrey<\/strong> is giving $12 million to a museum being built on Washington\u2019s National Mall that will document African-American life.<\/p>\n<p>The National Museum of African American History and Culture announced the gift Tuesday and said the museum\u2019s 350-seat theater will be named after <strong>Winfrey.<\/strong> <strong>Winfrey<\/strong> previously gave the museum $1 million, and the museum says her $13 million total contribution is the museum\u2019s largest to date.<\/p>\n<p><strong>President Barack Obama<\/strong> helped break ground on the $500 million museum in early 2012. When it\u2019s finished, the museum will be the 19th Smithsonian museum and will house artifacts including <strong>Harriet Tubman\u2019s<\/strong> shawl, <strong>Emmett Till\u2019s<\/strong> casket and a Jim Crow-era segregated railroad car.<\/p>\n<p>The U.S. government is providing half of the funding for the museum, which is expected to open in late 2015.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>WASHINGTON\u00a0 \u2014 Oprah Winfrey is giving $12 million to a museum being built on Washington\u2019s National Mall that will document African-American life.
