It is a logical move for the organization as it is saving $5.3 million by cutting ties with the five-year veteran.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Roy\u2019s<\/strong> career was once very promising. As a member of the Portland Trail Blazers, he averaged 16.8 points per game as a rookie, which spurred him to the NBA Rookie of the Year award.\u00a0 He followed that up with scoring averages of 19.1, 22.6 and 21.5 the following seasons. In the 2010-11 season, durability became a major issue. His scoring average dropped to just 12.5 points per game and he played in only 47 games.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Roy <\/strong>retired in December 2011 while still a member of the Blazers.
