She earned more than $1.8 million during that period.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Hill<\/strong> already plead guilty to tax evasion last summer.<\/p>\n<p>The Grammy award-winning artist said in documents that \u201cwhen she withdrew from society at large due to what she perceived as manipulation and very real threats to herself and her family.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She did not reveal any details about the exact nature of the threats, however.<\/p>\n<p>Though on her Tumblr page\u2013which is no longer live\u2013back in June of last year, <strong>Hill <\/strong>published a post detailing why she refused to pay:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor the past several years, I have remained what others would consider underground. \u00a0I did this in order to build a community of people, like-minded in their desire for freedom and the right to pursue their goals and lives without being manipulated and controlled by a media protected military industrial complex with a completely different agenda.\u00a0 Having put the lives and needs of other people before my own for multiple years, and having made hundreds of millions of dollars for certain institutions, under complex and sometimes severe circumstances, I began to require growth and more equitable treatment, but was met with resistance.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Lauryn Hill filed legal documents asking for mercy before her sentencing this month, saying threats against her family kept her from paying taxes in 2005, \u201906 and \u201907.
