{"id":20125,"date":"2013-03-19T09:42:03","date_gmt":"2013-03-19T13:42:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/flsentinel.com\/?p=20125"},"modified":"2013-03-19T09:50:35","modified_gmt":"2013-03-19T13:50:35","slug":"cops-who-shot-kimani-gray-focus-of-5-prior-federal-civil-rights-lawsuits","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/flsentinel.com\/?p=20125","title":{"rendered":"Cops Who Shot Kimani Gray Focus Of 5 Prior Federal  Civil Rights Lawsuits"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>BROOKLYN, NY \u2014 The cops who shot 16-year-old Brooklyn teen <strong>Kimani Gray<\/strong> have been accused of civil rights violations in federal lawsuits.<\/p>\n<p>Sergeant<strong> Mourad Mourad<\/strong> and Officer <strong>Jovaniel Cordova<\/strong> racked up five such charges prior to their fatal confrontation with <strong>Gray<\/strong> on March 9. <strong>Mourad<\/strong> has been sued three times while working as a plainclothes officer in Staten Island, while <strong>Cordova<\/strong> was slapped twice while working in Brooklyn\u2019s 70th Precinct.<\/p>\n<p>Costing the city $215,000 in court settlements, the combined cases, save for one, were all dismissed and later sealed. \u00a0<strong>Attorney Brett Klein<\/strong>, a lawyer who filed four of the five lawsuits against the two, explains both <strong>Mourad <\/strong>and <strong>Cordova <\/strong>were accused of exploiting the controversial \u201cstop-and-frisk\u201d tactic and going outside the confines of the law to hide their involvement.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>BROOKLYN, NY \u2014 The cops who shot 16-year-old Brooklyn teen Kimani Gray have been accused of civil rights violations in federal lawsuits.
