{"id":20101,"date":"2013-03-18T16:56:29","date_gmt":"2013-03-18T20:56:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/flsentinel.com\/?p=20101"},"modified":"2013-03-18T16:56:29","modified_gmt":"2013-03-18T20:56:29","slug":"halle-berrys-the-call-surprises-at-the-box-office","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/flsentinel.com\/?p=20101","title":{"rendered":"Halle Berry\u2019s \u2018The Call\u2019 Surprises At The Box Office"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>After a string of major flops like last year\u2019s<em> Cloud Atlas<\/em> and this year\u2019s <em>Movie 43<\/em>, Oscar winner <strong>Halle Berry<\/strong> entered this weekend in serious need of a hit.<\/p>\n<p>And despite a low budget and mixed reviews, it appears her new thriller <em>The Call<\/em> brought just what the doctor ordered.<\/p>\n<p>According to box office estimates, the movie opened with $17.1 million, making it her third largest non-<em>X-Men<\/em> debut.<\/p>\n<p>Sony\/TriStar, which acquired the $15 million R-rated film from Troika Pictures, effectively marketed <em>The Call<\/em> to women, and according to the studio, the opening-weekend audience was 61 percent female and 47 percent below the age of 30 \u2014 and it also played very well with African-American moviegoers. <em>The Call<\/em> earned a \u2018B+\u2019 CinemaScore grade.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Berry\u2019s<\/strong> film beat out the latest comedy offering from A-listers <strong>Steve Carrell<\/strong> and <strong>Jim Carrey<\/strong>, the magician spoof <em>The Incredible Burt Wonderstone<\/em>, but failed to unseat last week\u2019s reigning champ <em>Oz: The Great and Powerful<\/em> which earned just over $42 million in its second weekend.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>After a string of major flops like last year\u2019s Cloud Atlas and this year\u2019s Movie 43, Oscar winner Halle Berry entered this weekend in serious need of a hit.
