{"id":19550,"date":"2013-02-11T16:43:41","date_gmt":"2013-02-11T21:43:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/flsentinel.com\/?p=19550"},"modified":"2013-02-11T16:43:41","modified_gmt":"2013-02-11T21:43:41","slug":"jay-z-and-kanye-west-win-big-at-grammy-awards","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/flsentinel.com\/?p=19550","title":{"rendered":"Jay-Z and Kanye West Win Big At Grammy Awards"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As expected, the Grammy Awards gave a lot of love to <strong>Jay-Z<\/strong>, <strong>Kanye West<\/strong>, <strong>Adele <\/strong>and <strong>Frank Ocean<\/strong>, who marked a breakthrough year with six nominations, two wins, and his debut awards performance with the song, <em>\u201cForrest Gump.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Taking place at Staples Center in Los Angeles on Sunday, host <strong>LL Cool J<\/strong> began the annual event by introducing himself as emcee of Music\u2019s Biggest Night, referencing the influence of <strong>Michael Jackson<\/strong> in his life, his love for vinyl, and the passing of <strong>Whitney Houston<\/strong> the year prior. <strong>Adele<\/strong> received the first award of the evening for Best Pop Solo Performance for her live edition of <em>\u201cSet Fire to the Rain.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Best Urban Contemporary Album, a new category this year, was presented by <strong>Nas <\/strong>and <strong>Kelly Rowland<\/strong>, and went to Ocean for <em>\u201cPyramids,\u201d<\/em> his first win at the ceremony. <strong>Ocean<\/strong> thanked his mother, who was teary-eyed in the audience, along with his managers, group <strong>Odd Future<\/strong>, and record label, Def Jam.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Jay-Z <\/strong>and <strong>Kanye West<\/strong> took home early awards for Best Rap Performance and Best Rap Song for their hit <em>\u201cN***** in Paris,\u201d<\/em> with producer <strong>Hit-Boy <\/strong>on site to accept the honors during the pre-telecast ceremony. They later received the award for Best Rap\/Sung Collaboration along with Ocean and <strong>The-Dream<\/strong> for <em>\u201cNo Church In the Wild.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Rihanna<\/strong>, who won the Grammy Award for Best Short Form Music Video for her song <em>\u201cWe Found Love\u201d<\/em> with <strong>Calvin Harris<\/strong>, made a soulful performance of her song\u00a0 \u201c<em>Stay,\u201d<\/em> and later led a tribute piece to <strong>Bob Marley<\/strong>, singing his classic \u201c<em>Could You Be Loved,\u201d<\/em> with sons <strong>Ziggy <\/strong>and <strong>Damian Marley<\/strong>, as well as<strong> Sting<\/strong> and <strong>Bruno Mars<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>LeCrae <\/strong>received the Grammy Award for Best Gospel Album for his release, <em>Gravity<\/em>, a rap record which he said wasn\u2019t necessarily intended to be classified as Christian, but was gratefully embraced by the gospel community.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was an honest album,\u201d the 33-year-old noted. \u201cI\u2019m honest about my faith. I\u2019m not afraid to say I\u2019m a Christian.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Best Rap Album went to <strong>Drake<\/strong> for <em>Take Care,<\/em> and electronic <strong>DJ Skrillex <\/strong>won three Grammy Awards, adding to the three he earned last year.
