{"id":19349,"date":"2013-01-31T15:08:52","date_gmt":"2013-01-31T20:08:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/flsentinel.com\/?p=19349"},"modified":"2013-01-31T15:27:29","modified_gmt":"2013-01-31T20:27:29","slug":"jailed-man-charged-with-2012-homicide","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/flsentinel.com\/?p=19349","title":{"rendered":"Jailed Man Charged With 2012 Homicide"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On February 12, 2012 at 11:44 a. m., the Hillsborough County Sheriff\u2019s Office reported that <strong>Nancy Grooms<\/strong>, 52, had been found dead in the bedroom of her residence at 920 122<sup>nd<\/sup> Avenue. The Medical Examiner\u2019s Office later determined <strong>Grooms<\/strong> died as a result of several stab wounds.<\/p>\n<p>Detectives viewed video surveillance footage from a couple of convenience stores and they showed <strong>Grooms<\/strong> in the company of an unknown Black male. She was wearing the same clothing in the videos she was found dead in. The unknown male was later identified as <strong>Otano Leggett<\/strong>, 24.<\/p>\n<p>Through interviews, detectives learned <strong>Leggett <\/strong>was seen leaving <strong>Grooms\u2019 <\/strong>apartment. She had not been seen or heard from again until she was found dead. DNA evidence was gathered and it linked <strong>Leggett<\/strong> to <strong>Grooms<\/strong> prior to her death.<\/p>\n<p>On January 25, 2013, detectives charged <strong>Leggett <\/strong>with first-degree murder with a weapon. He is currently serving a 2 year sentence in Florida State Prison on drug charges after his conviction in August 2012.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Grooms<\/strong> was the mother of one child, <strong>Rosealee Hoffman,<\/strong> of Texas.
