{"id":19340,"date":"2013-01-31T15:05:08","date_gmt":"2013-01-31T20:05:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/flsentinel.com\/?p=19340"},"modified":"2013-01-31T15:05:08","modified_gmt":"2013-01-31T20:05:08","slug":"texas-womans-execution-halted-da-wont-appeal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/flsentinel.com\/?p=19340","title":{"rendered":"Texas Woman\u2019s Execution Halted; DA Won\u2019t Appeal"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>HUNTSVILLE, Texas\u00a0 \u2014 Dallas County prosecutors say they aren\u2019t appealing a state judge\u2019s decision to halt the scheduled Tuesday evening execution of a Texas woman.<\/p>\n<p>She would have been the first woman put to death in the U.S. since 2010.<\/p>\n<p>State District <strong>Judge Larry Mitchel<\/strong>l issued a reprieve for 51-year-old <strong>Kimberly McCarthy<\/strong> less than five hours before she could have been taken to the death chamber for the 1997 slaying of a neighbor.<\/p>\n<p>Dallas County Assistant District <strong>Attorney Shelly Yeatts<\/strong> says <strong>McCarthy\u2019s<\/strong> execution date now is April 3.<\/p>\n<p><strong>McCarthy\u2019s<\/strong> lawyers contend the jury that convicted her of murder was improperly selected on the basis of race. <strong>McCarthy<\/strong> is black.
