{"id":19147,"date":"2013-01-17T15:13:32","date_gmt":"2013-01-17T20:13:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/flsentinel.com\/?p=19147"},"modified":"2013-01-17T15:13:32","modified_gmt":"2013-01-17T20:13:32","slug":"stand-your-ground-defendant-sentenced-to-8-years-in-prison","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/flsentinel.com\/?p=19147","title":{"rendered":"\u2018Stand Your Ground\u2019 Defendant Sentenced To 8 Years In Prison"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Trevor Dooley<\/strong>, a 71-year-old Valrico man who said he was standing his ground when he shot and killed a 41-year-old man in September 2010, was sentenced Thursday by <strong>Circuit Judge Ashley Moody<\/strong> to 8 years in prison followed by 10 years of probation.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Dooley<\/strong> had walked onto a basketball court near his home to confront a skateboarder. <strong>David Wright<\/strong> intervened, and he and <strong>Dooley<\/strong> got into an argument.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Dooley<\/strong> testified that he shot <strong>Wright<\/strong> in self defense after <strong>Wright<\/strong> had grabbed him by the throat and pulled him to the ground causing his gun to discharge. <strong>Wright <\/strong>died. <strong>Dooley\u2019s <\/strong>defense team used the state\u2019s \u201cStand Your Ground\u201d law in the case. However, <strong>Judge Moody<\/strong> ruled against it.<\/p>\n<p>In November 2012, a jury found <strong>Dooley<\/strong> guilty of manslaughter in the incident that was witnessed by <strong>Wright\u2019s<\/strong> 8-year-old daughter.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Dooley<\/strong> was facing up to 30 years in prison for the offense.
