{"id":18975,"date":"2013-01-07T17:00:38","date_gmt":"2013-01-07T22:00:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/flsentinel.com\/?p=18975"},"modified":"2013-01-07T17:00:38","modified_gmt":"2013-01-07T22:00:38","slug":"commission-rejects-historic-designation-for-rogers-park","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/flsentinel.com\/?p=18975","title":{"rendered":"Commission Rejects Historic Designation For Roger&#8217;s Park"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Last week, an announcement\u00a0was made that the\u00a0Historic Preservation\u00a0Commission Board had\u00a0denied an application that\u00a0Roger\u2019s Park be designated\u00a0as a historical landmark.<\/p>\n<p>A group of advocates who\u00a0have fought for years to get\u00a0the designation for the park,\u00a0have vowed that this decision\u00a0does not mean the end,\u00a0and they will be meeting\u00a0with <strong>Congresswoman\u00a0Kathy Castor<\/strong>\u00a0and her staff\u00a0to discuss strategy on how to\u00a0proceed.<\/p>\n<p>The group also said after\u00a0the meeting with\u00a0<strong>Congresswoman Castor<\/strong>,\u00a0they will sit down with City\u00a0of Tampa Historic\u00a0Preservation and Urban\u00a0Design Director, <strong>Dennis\u00a0Fernandez<\/strong>, and get things\u00a0back on course for the historic\u00a0designation for the\u00a0park.<\/p>\n<p>According to a member of\u00a0the group, there have been\u00a0some changes at the park\u00a0that may have impacted the\u00a0decision to deny the application.<\/p>\n<p>Among the changes were\u00a0the razing of at least two\u00a0buildings, the destruction of\u00a0a cart path, and some cosmetic\u00a0changes to the club house.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Last week, an announcement\u00a0was made that the\u00a0Historic Preservation\u00a0Commission Board had\u00a0denied an application that\u00a0Roger\u2019s Park be designated\u00a0as a historical landmark.
