The Washington Redskins, coming out of their bye week, voted to add captains to the group that has been in place since the start of the season and rookie quarterback <strong>Robert Griffin, III<\/strong> was selected. It\u2019s the first rookie <strong>Shanahan<\/strong> can recall being named captain.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s very hard to vote a rookie to be your captain,\u201d Shanahan said. \u201cBut midway through the season, you say, \u2018Hey, he\u2019s our leader.\u2019 \u201d<strong> Griffin <\/strong>and defensive linemen <strong>Barry Cofield<\/strong> and <strong>Stephen Bowen<\/strong> were added as captains.<\/p>\n<p>Special teams ace <strong>Lorenzo Alexander<\/strong>, linebacker <strong>London Fletcher<\/strong> and left tackle <strong>Trent Williams<\/strong> opened the season as captains.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It was a first for Mike Shanahan.
