HOLTON<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Sentinel City Editor<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>For years, members of the community have watched countless young men fall between the cracks. Now, educators are reaching out to the community in hopes of saving some of these young men from an undesired future.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Lewis Brinson,<\/strong> Superintendent of the Administration for the Hillsborough County Public School District, in conjunction with other educators, will host a <strong><em>\u201cLet\u2019s Connect To Save Our Sons\u201d <\/em><\/strong>Young Men\u2019s Forum. The event will take place on Saturday, November 10<sup>th<\/sup>, at Middleton High School, 4801 N. 22<sup>nd<\/sup> Street.<\/p>\n<p>During the two-hour event from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m., the group is inviting pastors and members of their congregation and neighborhoods to attend. The educators are hosting the Think Tank to address problems young African American males are experiencing in school.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Brinson<\/strong> said, \u201cWe are inviting the community to attend. We have quite a few churches and we are asking each to bring young men from their respective congregations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are asking pastors to commit to attend our first forum and to reach out to neighborhood boys who may not be members of your church. We are requesting that you bring ten young men to the forum.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>During the forum, the young men will have an opportunity to discuss their likes and dislikes about school openly. \u201cWe want to hear from the kids instead of hearing from the adults. There are just too many young men being excluded, dropping out, and just not being successful. We just have to do more. This is the only way to ensure a better future,\u201d <strong>Brinson <\/strong>said.<\/p>\n<p>Other educators includes: <strong>Ms. Doretha Edgecomb,<\/strong> School Board member; <strong>Anthony Satchel,<\/strong> Area Leadership Director, Area VII Schools; <strong>Henry Washington,<\/strong> Area Leadership Director, Area IV Schools; <strong>Ms. Carolyn Hill,<\/strong> Principal, Just Elementary School; <strong>Ross Anderson,<\/strong> Resource Teacher, Van Buren Middle School and Steinbrenner High School; <strong>Owen Young,<\/strong> Principal, Middleton High School; and <strong>Dallas Jackson,<\/strong> Principal, Martinez Middle School.<\/p>\n<p>The educators are asking that ministers call (9027-3351) or email lewis.brinson@sdhc.k12.fl.us.
