{"id":17590,"date":"2012-10-22T17:13:17","date_gmt":"2012-10-22T21:13:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/flsentinel.com\/?p=17590"},"modified":"2012-10-22T17:13:17","modified_gmt":"2012-10-22T21:13:17","slug":"charges-dropped-against-former-buccaneer-tight-end","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/flsentinel.com\/?p=17590","title":{"rendered":"Charges Dropped Against Former Buccaneer Tight End"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On Thursday, prosecutors dropped battery charges against former Tampa Bay Buccaneer tight end, <strong>Jerramy Stevens<\/strong>, from an incident in March 2011.<\/p>\n<p>The State Attorney\u2019s Office elected not to pursue felony and misdemeanor battery charges because two men <strong>Stevens<\/strong> allegedly assaulted weren\u2019t consistent with their stories. State Attorney\u2019s Office spokesman, <strong>Mark Cox<\/strong>, said the two men retreated and recanted from the original story they gave police.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement from Stevens\u2019 attorney, he said no witness, including the two alleged victims, testified that<strong> Stevens<\/strong> punched either victim. Police initially reported the two men were bouncers at the Hula Bay Club and Duke\u2019s Retired Surfer\u2019s Island. Both men worked at a marina next to the club. The two men had met <strong>Stevens<\/strong> months before the alleged incident because he docked his boat at the marina.<\/p>\n<p>One of the men,<strong> William Russell<\/strong>, had reported that <strong>Stevens<\/strong> had broke his jaw, but no witnesses saw<strong> Stevens<\/strong> punch <strong>Russell<\/strong>. <strong>Russell <\/strong>later couldn\u2019t say for certain that <strong>Stevens<\/strong> hit him. <strong>Stevens<\/strong> signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2007 and was released in 2010 after his arrest for marijuana possession.
