{"id":17286,"date":"2012-10-08T16:16:12","date_gmt":"2012-10-08T20:16:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/flsentinel.com\/?p=17286"},"modified":"2012-10-08T15:55:36","modified_gmt":"2012-10-08T19:55:36","slug":"republican-legislator-slavery-was-a-blessing-for-black-people","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/flsentinel.com\/?p=17286","title":{"rendered":"Republican Legislator: Slavery Was A \u201cBlessing\u201d For Black People"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>There is an old saying that goes: \u201cAll Republicans aren\u2019t racists; but all racists are Republicans.\u201d This might be an exaggeration of facts, but Republican legislator from Arkansas,<strong> Jon Hubbard<\/strong>, certainly adds fuel to the flame.<\/p>\n<p>In a book overflowing with bigoted statements, <em>\u201cLetters to the Editor: Confessions of a Frustrated Conservative,\u201d<\/em> <strong>Hubbard<\/strong> makes some startlingly ignorant claims about Black and Hispanic Americans, including predicting there will eventually be a race extermination war like Nazi Germany.<\/p>\n<p><em>Slavery was good for black people:<\/em><br \/>\n\u201c\u2026 the institution of slavery that the black race has long believed to be an abomination upon its people may actually have been a blessing in disguise. The blacks who could endure those conditions and circumstances would someday be rewarded with citizenship in the greatest nation ever established upon the face of the Earth.\u201d If you think slavery was bad, you should have seen Africa.<\/p>\n<p>African Americans must \u201cunderstand that even while in the throes of slavery, their lives as Americans are likely much better than they ever would have enjoyed living in sub-Saharan Africa.\u201d\u201cKnowing what we know today about life on the African continent, would an existence spent in slavery have been any crueler than a life spent in sub-Saharan Africa?\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em>Black people are ignorant:<\/em><br \/>\n\u201cWouldn\u2019t life for blacks in America today be more enjoyable and successful if they would only learn to appreciate the value of a good education?\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>There is an old saying that goes: \u201cAll Republicans aren\u2019t racists; but all racists are Republicans.\u201d This might be an exaggeration of facts, but Republican legislator from Arkansas, Jon Hubbard, certainly adds fuel to the flame.
