{"id":17234,"date":"2012-10-04T16:37:34","date_gmt":"2012-10-04T20:37:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/flsentinel.com\/?p=17234"},"modified":"2012-10-04T16:37:34","modified_gmt":"2012-10-04T20:37:34","slug":"john-mcneil-may-leave-prison-soon","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/flsentinel.com\/?p=17234","title":{"rendered":"John McNeil May Leave Prison Soon"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>ATLANTA, GA &#8211; An African American man from Kennesaw, Ga. who has been in prison for the last six years for killing a white contractor may get out soon.<\/p>\n<p>A Georgia Superior Court Judge granted J<strong>ohn McNeil\u2019s<\/strong> petition for habeas corpus in the case.<\/p>\n<p><strong>McNeil<\/strong> was convicted of killing <strong>Brian Epp<\/strong> despite evidence that he was defending himself and his family on his own property. The court\u2019s decision said that<strong> McNeil<\/strong> received ineffective counsel during his trial when his attorney,\u201cfailed to request charges based on the theories of self defense.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Georgia <strong>Attorney General Sam Olens<\/strong> has 30 days to appeal the court\u2019s decision.
