{"id":16959,"date":"2012-09-24T15:12:41","date_gmt":"2012-09-24T19:12:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/flsentinel.com\/?p=16959"},"modified":"2012-09-24T14:42:12","modified_gmt":"2012-09-24T18:42:12","slug":"jones-sucessfully-defends-title-against-belfort-at-ufc-152","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/flsentinel.com\/?p=16959","title":{"rendered":"Jones Sucessfully Defends Title Against Belfort At UFC 152"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>TORONTO\u00a0 &#8212; <strong>Jon Jones<\/strong> successfully defended his light heavyweight title, surviving an early scare to submit former champion <strong>Vitor Belfort<\/strong> in the fourth round at UFC 152 on Saturday night.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Belfort<\/strong> came close with an armbar in the first round, but Jones&#8217; reach, varied attack and ground and pound took a toll on the veteran challenger.<\/p>\n<p>Unable to get his striking game going, <strong>Belfort<\/strong> tried to take the fight to the ground where he could use his jiu-jitsu. But he paid a price and finally fell victim to an Americana submission 54 seconds into the round. <strong>Jones<\/strong> improved to 17-1, and Belfort dropped to 21-10.<\/p>\n<p>In the co-main event at the Air Canada Centre, <strong>Demetrious Johnson<\/strong> won a split decision &#8211; 48-47, 47-48, 49-46 &#8211; over <strong>Joseph Benavidez<\/strong> to become the UFC&#8217;s first flyweight champion.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Jones<\/strong> took down <strong>Belfort<\/strong> down 30 seconds after the opening bell, and the Brazilian responded with an armbar attempt that looked dangerous. Jones slammed <strong>Belfort<\/strong> down to the canvas and eventually wriggled free as the crowd began to chant &#8220;<strong>Vitor<\/strong>! <strong>Vitor<\/strong>!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I&#8217;ve never had my arm pop like that before,&#8221; said <strong>Jones<\/strong>, who said he would have let his arm break rather than tap out.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Jones<\/strong> remained on top and began to throw elbows, cutting <strong>Belfort<\/strong>. The doctor had a look at the battered challenger between rounds.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Belfort<\/strong>, who does his best work traditionally in the first round, came out punching in the second. But he had a hard time penetrating<strong> Jones&#8217;<\/strong> reach.
