Nelson<\/strong>, a 13-year judicial veteran, was assigned to <strong>Zimmerman\u2019<\/strong>s case Thursday. A day earlier, an appeals court granted his attorney\u2019s request for <strong>Judge Kenneth Lester<\/strong> to disqualify himself.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Attorney Mark O\u2019Mara<\/strong> had asked the court earlier this month to overturn Lester\u2019s decision not to leave the case. <strong>O\u2019Mara<\/strong> contended that the judge made disparaging remarks abou<strong>t Zimmerman\u2019<\/strong>s character and advocated for additional charges against him in setting his $1 million bond in July.<\/p>\n<p>Two judges on a three-judge appeals panel agreed in an opinion issued Wednesday.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>ORLANDO, FL \u2014 A new judge has been assigned to oversee the case of George Zimmerman, the former neighborhood watch volunteer charged with killing Trayvon Martin.
