{"id":15863,"date":"2012-07-26T16:56:04","date_gmt":"2012-07-26T20:56:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/flsentinel.com\/?p=15863"},"modified":"2012-07-26T16:56:04","modified_gmt":"2012-07-26T20:56:04","slug":"u-s-donates-extra-150-million-to-battle-aids","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/flsentinel.com\/?p=15863","title":{"rendered":"U.S. Donates Extra $150 Million To Battle AIDS"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>WASHINGTON\u00a0 \u2014 Science now has the tools to slash the spread of HIV even without a vaccine \u2014 and the U.S. is donating an extra $150 million to help poor countries put them in place, the <strong>Obama<\/strong> administration told the world\u2019s largest AIDS conference Monday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe want to get to the end of AIDS,\u201d declared the top U.S. HIV researcher,<strong> Dr. Anthony Fauci<\/strong> of the National Institutes of Health.<\/p>\n<p>How long it takes depends on how quickly the world can adopt those tools, he said \u2014 including getting more of the millions of untreated people onto life-saving drugs that come with the bonus of keeping them from infecting others.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo promises, no dates, but we know it can happen,\u201d <strong>Fauci<\/strong> told the International AIDS Conference.<\/p>\n<p>Some 34.2 million people worldwide are living with HIV, and 2.5 million were infected last year.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton<\/strong> said the goal is an AIDS-free generation.
