{"id":15807,"date":"2012-07-23T16:23:18","date_gmt":"2012-07-23T20:23:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/flsentinel.com\/?p=15807"},"modified":"2012-07-23T16:23:56","modified_gmt":"2012-07-23T20:23:56","slug":"president-shares-story-of-hero-who-tended-to-friend-in-theater-shooting","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/flsentinel.com\/?p=15807","title":{"rendered":"President Shares Story Of Hero Who Tended To Friend In Theater Shooting"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Seconds after a gunman shot <strong>Allie Young<\/strong> in the neck in a crowded Colorado theater, a friend, <strong>Stephanie Davies<\/strong>, pulled her into an aisle, put pressure on her wound and dialed 911. <strong>Young<\/strong> told her friend to run, but<strong> Davies<\/strong> refused.<br \/>\n<strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>President Barack Obama<\/strong> gave that account Sunday night in Aurora, praising <strong>Davies<\/strong> and others for heroism amid chaos and bloodshed in the shooting that killed 12 and wounded 58.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Shooting Survivors Recount Horror<\/strong><br \/>\nThe women had settled in alongside others early Friday for a midnight showing of <em>\u201cThe Dark Knight Rises,\u201d<\/em> the latest installment in the Batman series. Suddenly a gunman threw canisters only a few feet from where the pair sat.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Young<\/strong>, 19, instinctively stood to act or warn others. A shot ripped into her neck. She collapsed, blood spurting from the wound, <strong>Pres. Obama<\/strong> said.<\/p>\n<p>Instead of running or hiding, <strong>Davies<\/strong>, 21, pulled <strong>Young<\/strong> into the aisle and put pressure on the wound with one hand and dialed 911 with the other,<strong> Pres. Obama<\/strong> said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t know how many people at any age would have the presence of mind that<strong> Stephanie<\/strong> did, or the courage that <strong>Allie<\/strong> showed,\u201d the<strong> President<\/strong> said. \u201cThey re-present what\u2019s best in us, and they assure us that out of this darkness, a brighter day is going to come.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When the SWAT team arrived, <strong>Davies<\/strong> helped carry<strong> Young<\/strong> to an ambulance.<\/p>\n<p>Because of <strong>Davies\u2019<\/strong> actions, <strong>Young<\/strong> is going to be fine, the<strong> President<\/strong> said.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Pres.
