{"id":15329,"date":"2012-07-02T14:32:21","date_gmt":"2012-07-02T18:32:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/flsentinel.com\/?p=15329"},"modified":"2012-07-02T13:19:11","modified_gmt":"2012-07-02T17:19:11","slug":"mother-sues-after-baby-dies-in-jail","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/flsentinel.com\/?p=15329","title":{"rendered":"Mother Sues After Baby Dies In Jail"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Deshawn Balka<\/strong>, 25, is suing both Clayton County, Ga., and <strong>Sheriff Kem Kimbrough<\/strong> for allegedly taking inadequate care of her baby after she prematurely gave birth to her son, who later died.<\/p>\n<p>In April, <strong>Balka<\/strong> was arrested for violating probation on a marijuana possession sentence. At the time, <strong>Balka<\/strong> was five months pregnant. As she stayed in the Clayton County jail, she began to experience contractions, and reportedly called out for help in vain.<\/p>\n<p>Three hours later, <strong>Balka<\/strong> was in full labor, delivering her son in to the jail toilet.<\/p>\n<p>According to <strong>Balka<\/strong>, even after the child was born, it still took between five to 10 minutes for jail staff to assist her.<\/p>\n<p>As a result, <strong>Balka\u2019s<\/strong> baby died, and she is still mourning the loss of what would have been her first child.
