\nQuincy Wilson\u00a0<\/a>is set to become the youngest male\u00a0American track Olympian<\/a>\u00a0after he was selected for the U.S. 4×400-meter relay team.<\/p>\n

Announcing the news on Instagram, Wilson, 16, wrote: \u201cWE GOING TO THE OLYMPICS\u00a0#paris2024\u00a0#teamusa.\u201d<\/p>\n

While the team will not be formally announced until later this month, Wilson’s coach, Joe Lee, told\u00a0USA T<\/a>oday<\/a>\u00a0that Wilson got the news Sunday. \u201cThe call came directly to me from USA Track & Field,\u201d he told the newspaper. \u201cI called Quincy afterwards with the good news.\u201d<\/p>\n

Wilson, a student at Bullis School outside Washington, D.C., had a remarkable performance at trials, setting \u2014 and subsequently besting \u2014 the world record for under-18 runners.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve never been this happy a day in my life when it comes to track,\u201d Wilson said after he broke the record in the 400-meter semifinals.<\/p>\n

Justin Robinson, an American, had held the under-18 world record for the 400-meter dash before Wilson\u2019s runs during trials. Robinson ran 44.84 seconds in 2019, when he was 17 years old.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
