Dorothy Jean Tillman II\u2019s participation in Arizona State University\u2019s May 6 commencement was the latest step on a higher-education journey the Chicago teen started when she took her first college course at age 10.<\/p>\n

In between came associate\u2019s, bachelor\u2019s and master\u2019s degrees.<\/p>\n

When Tillman successfully defended her dissertation in December, she became the youngest person \u2014 at age 17 \u2014 to earn a doctoral degree in integrated behavioral health at Arizona State,\u00a0associate professor Leslie Manson told ABC\u2019s \u201cGood Morning America\u201d<\/a>\u00a0for a story Monday.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a wonderful celebration, and we hope … that Dorothy Jean inspires more students,\u201d Manson said. \u201cBut this is still something so rare and unique.\u201d<\/p>\n
