Doris Ross Reddick,<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Mrs. Doris Ross Reddick, <\/strong>the first Black woman elected to the Hillsborough County School Board, passed away earlier this week. She was 97 years old. Cause of death was attributed to complications from pneumonia.<\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 A longtime educator in the Hillsborough County School System, an elementary school in Wimauma is named in her honor. Fred Hearns,<\/strong> Black Curator with the Tampa Bay History Center, credits Mrs. Reddick<\/strong> with the hard work she did to have Middleton and Blake High Schools rebuilt.<\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Elected to the School Board in 1992, Mrs. Reddick<\/strong> became the first Black woman to hold that position and serve as the chair.\u00a0 She served three terms that totaled twelve years.<\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 2, 2024, 11 a. m., at Hyde Park United Methodist Church. Viewing will be on Wednesday, May 1, 3-8 p. m., at Wilson Funeral Home.<\/p>\n
