{"id":13250,"date":"2012-03-05T17:10:30","date_gmt":"2012-03-05T22:10:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/flsentinel.com\/?p=13250"},"modified":"2012-03-05T17:10:30","modified_gmt":"2012-03-05T22:10:30","slug":"first-lady-michelle-obama-promotes-fitness-at-basketball-tourney","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/flsentinel.com\/?p=13250","title":{"rendered":"First Lady Michelle Obama Promotes Fitness At Basketball Tourney"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>CHARLOTTE, NC\u00a0 \u2014 For a few minutes Friday,<strong> First Lady Michelle Obama<\/strong> turned the hardwood floor at the Time Warner Arena into an elementary school gym.<br \/>\n<strong>Mrs. Obama<\/strong> was in North Carolina for two Democratic Party events in Raleigh and Charlotte.<\/p>\n<p>But before those fundraisers, she promoted the \u201cLet\u2019s Move!\u201d fitness program with children from two Charlotte elementary schools. It took place after the first women\u2019s basketball game at the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association basketball tournament.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mrs. Obama<\/strong> walked to midcourt and addressed the crowd about her national anti-obesity campaign. She touted basketball as a way to keep active. \u201cWe need them to be the next generation to handle challenges,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>She promised she wouldn\u2019t talk long because \u201cwe\u2019re going to be moving around.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s no better way than basketball to illustrate the point (of staying healthy.) We are a basketball family and my husband is a crazy fanatic about basketball,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mrs. Obama<\/strong> and <strong>Sen. Kay Hagan<\/strong>, D-N.C., then took part as students from two Charlotte elementary schools competed in a relay. After the students ran the length of the court and jumped rope, <strong>Mrs. Obama<\/strong> and<strong> Hagan<\/strong> tossed them basketballs so they could take shots.
