{"id":12543,"date":"2012-01-30T16:16:43","date_gmt":"2012-01-30T21:16:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/flsentinel.com\/?p=12543"},"modified":"2012-01-30T16:17:00","modified_gmt":"2012-01-30T21:17:00","slug":"voting-hearing-confirms-alleged-fraud-non-existent","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/flsentinel.com\/?p=12543","title":{"rendered":"Voting Hearing Confirms Alleged Fraud Non-Existent"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>BY JOANNA TOKLEY<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Special To The <em>Sentinel<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>During the field hearing Friday in Tampa on Florida\u2019s changes to election laws held by Democratic Senators <strong>Bill Nelson<\/strong> (Florida) and<strong> Dick Durbin<\/strong> (Illinois), voters heard testimony by two Florida elections supervisors that convinced the hearing panel and onlookers that there was little to no voter fraud during previous elections.<\/p>\n<p>Elections Supervisors <strong>Michael Ertel<\/strong> (Seminole County) and <strong>Ann McFall<\/strong> (Volusia County) could not cite one instance in which voter fraud became an issue.<br \/>\nDuring testimony from witnesses opposing voter law changes, at least five reasons were given as to why the HB1355 election law changes were considered \u201cvote eroding and suppression.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The 48-hour limit to submit new voter registration forms does not take Friday or Monday holidays into account. In addition, reducing the number of voting sites makes access for early voting difficult.<\/p>\n<p>Also, implementing the reduction in the number of early voting hours would increase the cost of elections because of need for paying overtime to employees required to work extra hours.<\/p>\n<p>The requirement that voters who have changed addresses and\/or names must cast provisional ballots was the most disturbing, because 40 to 50 percent of provisional ballots have been considered to be invalid.
