CREWS<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong> Sentinel Staff Writer<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Ron \u201cJomama Johnson\u201d Shepard<\/strong> has meant more to the broadcast industry than anyone else over the past 23 years. He is responsible for creating an awareness of Clear Channel Broadcasting that hadn\u2019t been done before.<\/p>\n<p>On December 20th, <strong>Jomama Johnson<\/strong> officially retired as the Program Manager and Promoter for Clear Channel Radio.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve had a lot of enjoyable experiences over the years,\u201d said <strong>Jomama<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is an ever-learning industry, so there\u2019s always something out there to pick up on and use.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Jomama<\/strong> said his profession afforded him the opportunity to meet super stars, and bring those personalities close to his listening audience.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Jomama<\/strong> said he\u2019ll return to radio, but for now, he\u2019s going to take care of his mother in Lake Wales.<\/p>\n<p>As far as the industry is concerned, <strong>Jomama<\/strong> said it\u2019s very competitive.\u201cThis is an ego-driven industry that also has a lot of politics connected to it. I understand it\u2019s part of the job, even though it can be difficult at times.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As far as his on-air persona is concerned, Jomama said he\u2019s learned if you\u2019re not about nothing, then no one is about you. \u201cNo one will hire <strong>Ron Shepard<\/strong> to do any promotions, but they will hire <strong>Jomama Johnson<\/strong>. Right now, life is a mental challenge, and I\u2019m prepared to be <strong>Ron Shepard<\/strong> instead of <strong>Jomama<\/strong>. The love of my family is all that matters right now.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Jomama<\/strong> said as far as Clear Channel is concerned, he knows he left a huge footprint behind. \u201cI started out there as an intern and now I\u2019ve done every job in radio. I am responsible for creating 95.7 The Beat, and getting out there and promoting the station.\u201d<br \/>\n<strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Jomama<\/strong> said getting into radio was always a dream of his, and he can\u2019t think of anything else he\u2019d rather do. \u201cNow that I\u2019m retired, I will do whatever I have to do.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Of the 23 years <strong>Jomama<\/strong> has been in the industry, 19 of them were in Tampa at Clear Channel.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Jomama\u2019s<\/strong> wife,<strong> Prophetess B. Shepard<\/strong>, was the host of Sunday Morning Glory, a gospel show, and also has left the station. \u201cNow, we both will be starting over,\u201d said <strong>Jomama<\/strong>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>BY LEON B.
